Well, I tried it and while I sort of liked the work (sort of), tomorrow is my last day at the Lord Bongo Memorial High School.

Yes, I put my notice in last week. Mostly, it's a financial issue...if I'm going to get up every stinking day and shave, someone better be paying me more than they were.

Plus the Beltway Bandits kept calling...."work two weeks and we'll pay you more than the school will between now and March." Dang! I hate to travel but how can I say no to that?

So I'm officially unemployed again, or will be by tomorrow. I'll miss the kids - especially the special ed kids, they were a lot of fun and a worthwhile challenge for this old brain.

And I'll be back to looking for a job in January. I really hate looking for a job.

the school's out forever,

Jack

You could take this outfit out of the closet and go around demanding 'protection' money... :D

That is the way with education isn't it? Don't pay the teachers crap and expect every kid to be taught everything.

I am sure you will make out okay Jack.

Enjoy the time off again.

I'm pretty sure. I checked behind all the doors and looked carefully at all the nameplates and none said "Lord Bongo".

There was some talk of a bovine memorial urinal, but hey, I'm not holding my breath.

Okay, Jack, I must have missed something somewhere along the way. Were you substitute teaching? I've been teaching 28 years and one of the highlights is getting to know the musicians among the kids. Plus, while I can't impress you guys with my EBMM collection, teenagers are amazed that I own four EB basses. Yesterday while I was taking attendance, one of the boys was playing some popular song (I'm out of the loop, but it did sound vaguely familiar) on an acoustic/electric guitar while a girl was singing. Both are very good, and it leant a sort of coffee house ambience to the classroom. Since they were finished their projects ahead of time, they provided music for the remainder of the class. Sorry you're leaving the profession. Hopefully, you at least got to meet one bass player.

Sorry, I can't keep up anymore! I was HIRED as a bilingual educational aide but ended up doing entirely unrelated things. Which was okay, I don't mind new challenges and I liked the kids, but the pay was completely ridiculous. And the government contractors tempted me. And I am weak, and I don't like getting up early every day.

The final straw was that in the dress code, rock and roll t-shirts were completely prohibited.
