Why did EB decide to keep the Music Man (or is it MusicMan?) name in its instruments, instead of just calling them the Ernie Ball Bongo, Stingray, Sterling, etc?

Just something I've been curious about.

My guess would be because MusicMan had already established a name for itself under Leo Fender and Co. Simple marketing decision.

Most likely the same reason why CBS didn't change Fender Musical Instruments to CBS Musical Instruments. There was no second guessing when one heard or saw the name Fender.:)

Points taken. I guess what I was wondering about was why both Ernie Ball and MusicMan appear in the instrument names. CBS left Fender under its own name, and Fender did the same for SWR (It's a Fender P-Bass, not the CBS Fender P-Bass). I didn't know anything about EB/MM when I bought my Bongo, and remember getting confused about the company name (Is it Ernie Ball, or is it MusicMan...or is it - God forgive me I'm ignorant - the Ernie Ball Signature series of MusicMan instruments?)

Well, in any case, I guess it don't matter, cause I know who owns who now, and also, it wasn't the name that sold me on the bass.

'Cause they knew the ones that said "Ernie Ball" on them would be top-quality instruments with excellent support; and there was a need to differentiate them thusly from the old Music Man line. No need to apologize for someone else's different concept of engineering and quality control.

*note*
I am full of it, BTW.

On the Bongo they're not: It just says
Bongo
MusicMan

I am an idiot...I completely missed that, and also the small print on the back of the headstock that says "MusicMan, a division of Ernie Ball." Oh sheesh, I've owned this bass for five months now.

This year I resolve to be less ignorant
