OT:More praise for the Mark

Well ....after much soul searching, I finally broke down and bought a Little Mark II.

Actually, the reason was my giant 75 lb 400+ crapped out on me at a gig. I was a tad miffed that I had spent all that $$$ and lugged all that weight just for it to fail at the worst time! (Thanks god for Sans Amp's !!) Anyhow, I had always been leary of trusting the tubes for four hours, I usually do original, one set gigs, but I was standing in for the night. So, when I came to the crossroads of repairing vs replacing, I happened upon MarkBass which is now carried at my local GC. I was amazed at the affordability of this equipment!!! The LMII was about 1/3 of the price I was going to shell ourt for Eden and BLOWS IT AWAY!!

The key to this little beast are the VLE/VPF features. You can do so much, tonally, with these...wow! Geez...push this thru 4 ohms and it is thunderous and clean!!

What does everyone think about the Mark Cabs?? Esp the larger ones....I need to push some air!!

I have a MarkBass rig made of two "small" cabs + an LMII head. So I run @ 4 ohm and it delivers MUCH volume. Actually, even on large stages, if I run the LMII over 9 o'clock, the bass sound passes through almost all the mikes on stage, no matter how I place the cabs.

I also agree on the tonal capabilities which are huge, but the real tube vibe is quite missing there, though. If you want the tube vibe, get tubes. The LMII, while being an excellent+ amp, won't even come close to, say, the '76 SVT I had.

Hey Sluggo, I am in the same boat. Just unloaded both Eden 410XLT's yesterday and am getting the double ported Markbass 4x10's to replace them. The Markbass covers a broader frequency spectrum and is 30 some pounds lighter.

My GC has to order them so I plan on heading there tomorrow.

What makes MB so light? Do they use compressed paper for the casing or something? Smaller Magnets? There is much to like about MB and I've never heard them!!!!!

Problem is, it's microprocessor controlled.........Microprocessors deteriorate after 20 years or so.....whereas the old SVT will still be chugging away then. At least you would have saved your back somewhat, so yeah, maybe it is a valid option. Innit?

I am trying to unload my SWR gear so I can get the little mark II and the 4x10 in 4 ohms so i get the full 500 watts.
I hate selling gear it is taking to long and my car just died so I cant even put it on the old plastic!!

I've considered it, but think I will eventually troubleshoot and fix it. As it was said...in 20 years, the micro processor may not work, but the old style tube amps will still be chuggin away. I just dont feel like spending $300 on tubes right now! Besides....there is nothing else as loud if you need it!

To be real, you just about never see anyone playing 20yr old solid state amps anyway. If that were the case, GK 400/800RB's and Peavy MKIV's would be on stages everywhere. SS amps always change and progress and come out with new models seems every 5-7yrs.

Tube amps are a different story, and do require maintenance, so either way you're spending lots of money.

I think they are out but not available in the US (probably not until 2008 from what I've heard)
