Every year at this time, I have a tendency to remember my Dad's favorite poem, or so he claimed it to be. He's been gone for over 20 years now, but I still miss him a lot. I taught him to play bass a couple of years before he died. Anyway, here's the poem.

Spring has sprung,
the grass is riz,
I wonder where
Them birdies is?

He was quite a character sometimes. Just wanted to share. It always makes me smile when I remember it. :)

Spring has sprung,
Da grass done riz.
I wonder where
Da flowers is.

I know we shouldn't wish winter (and thus part of our lives) away, but I'm sure glad spring is a-coming

Thanks for sharing Larry.

The recent happenings with my Dad really showed me how easy it is to take someone for granted. Its sad how easy we can lose track of whats really important.

In springtime, the only pretty ring time,
birds sing. Hey ding, a-ding, a-ding.
Sweet lovers love the Spring.

Thanks for that, thats got really great memories for me. My grandad used to sit me on his knee and recite that, in his best Bronx accent, it went something like this:-

De spring is sprung, de grass is riz.
I wonder where de boidies is.
De boidies is upon de wing.
But dat's absoid
Da wing is on de boid !

Lovely memories and a big thank you for making me think of him :)

This is how my Mom said it just yesterday.

Spring has sprung,
the grass is riz,
I wonder where
The flowers is?

My dad has been dead since I was 8 years old. Now I am 35. I actually stopped missing him by the time I was thirty. I guess I knew he would be very elderly and not the man I remembered. He served in WWII. My Mom who was younger than him is 79.

My grandfather on my dad's side would be 99 this year! That's really weird for me to think about. He died about 15 or 16 years ago. My grandmother died a few years after him. I'm still missing them after all these years; I have a lot of pleasant memories of them when I was a kid.

I loved how my dad adored me and I was his "baby of the family". He made each of us feel like the most special person in the world. Now my husband is adoring and that filled that long time void. I couldn't settle for a jerk after having a dad who made me feel so loved and special.

My dad was a super cool guy that my brother and I really miss to this day!

I think about him most when I'm riding my motorcycle; he rode for the California Highway Patrol and the Palm Springs Police. He even passed up promotions to stay on the bike and on the street.

He was truly a people person!

That's pretty cool that your dad was a cop too.

My dad was Chief of Police here in town when I was in high school. Soemtimes it was a hinderance, sometimes a blessing for me. I did skate on a few tickets that I would have gotten if I wasn't his son. He was on the force from '55, just before I was born until '85 when he passed away. Stress does terrible things to your circulatory system.

Would of been proud

Hy dad was a professional woodwind player (most notably the flute). He died before my musical bass player career took off. I wish he could he see me now; he would be proud of his "low notes" son. Miss ya dad, thanks for giving me the "music."

My dad was a tenor vocalist and took vocal lessons his entire adult life to the day he died. He would have loved me playing guitar, singing, playing gigs and making a few independent CD releases.

I will see him again when I leave this life behind.

Thanks for the compliments, Larry and Lisa!

Seems a good many of us here were (or are) fortunate enough to enjoy some quality time with our dads (and moms). A lot of people out there don't get that opportunity.

My Dad told it exactly the same way. He's gone 12 years - man what a drummer he was!
Incredible snare drum technique - all self taught!!
He came to see me play once . He said "Loved the drummer, really made the cymbals sing - you played great but were TOO DAMN LOUD!!!
Spud

EDIT:
spring has sprung
the grass is riz
I wonder where the birdie is
the bird is on the wing
but that's absurd
I always thought the wing was on the bird
