I just had to post this 'cause I'm so excited. I got a new job today!
A little background: I quit my last job back in April. I was a graphic designer working for an organization on the LSU campus. I'd been there almost 5 years, but I had become increasingly frustrated & miserable over the years. I hadn't advanced, and my pay was laughable. Meanwhile, my co-workers were all shooting through the ranks & getting promotions right & left (about 90% of them being young women in their 20s....hmmmmmm). I had no motivation & just didn't want to be there for the past couple of years. I got a new boss late last year & that boosted my morale a bit, but then it sunk again. It wasn't enough for me to be there & do my job; I was told more than once that I needed to chit-chat with people more & make myself more "visible" within the organization. Hello!! I was the graphic designer! My work was all over the place! Ridiculous. I was so miserable that my family life was being affected by my constant bad moods. I finally reached a point in which I just had to get out of that horrible job.
My wife, who was working part-time from home for a wonderful company in Washington, D.C., was able to get on full-time while I explored other opportunities. Well, one of those opportunities turned into a job interview last week. After the interview, I was sent a skills test to turn in early this week. And today I got the e-mail offering me the job!

The new job is another graphic design position, but this company is part of the largest transportation program in Louisiana's history. Some projects include things like widening highways, widening/building bridges, etc. I'm going to be doing essentially the same things I did in my previous job, but this one just seems bigger & better (better funded, too). My starting pay is more than my pay at my last job after almost 5 years of service.
Anyway, my first day is this coming Monday.
The reason for the short notice is that the current graphic designer is leaving the company in a couple of weeks & they wanted me to have some time with her to get my feet wet before she goes. I'm pretty excited!!
