To be honest, I used to be a huge gamer. Way back when I was 11, I bought my own Nintendo 64; first console I owned. I'd play GoldenEye for hours on end with my friends. Then, in 2003, I caved and got a PS2. I, to date, have probably logged more than 1000 hours on it.
However, in spring of '05, I started playing the guitar and bought an OLP Petrucci on eBay, (Prototype, apparently). Since then, as my gaming time decreased, my guitar playing time has increased to a point where I no longer have the desire to play FFXII or MGS3 for 3 hours straight, but to play guitar instead.
Everytime I'm about to turn on my PS2, I look at my recently purchased DG JP6, and my posters of Petrucci and think, "He plays that well; so can I, but I have to put in the time..."
You can easily guess which one I chose...
