I got this rig shortly before heading out on the road. Ive used it for the past week. I have an off day today, so I actually have enough time to give some thoughts on this rig.
I ran my StingRay 5 to the Mesa/Berg rig, and it was great.
First off, Ive owned a few Berg cabs since I discovered Bergantino. My first was an HT210S. I then ran an HT210/HT115 stack, which wound up being more cabs than I wanted. The 4 ohm HT322 seemes like a good solution, and it was.
The HT322 is my favorite cab that Ive ever used. I really dont believe that Ill ever get rid of the HT322 unless I move into an IP something. The HT322 is smooth and sweet. Great midrange punch. The highs dont sound seperate from the woofers. It all sounds "together". The lows of the HT322 will get HUGE without getting muddy, and without losing clarity. So overall, the Ht322 has turned out to be my dream cab. For my needs, it destroys anything else Ive tried.
The Mesa D-180 has also been a treat. With my SR5, I find it to match well with the HT322. For its wattage rating (200 watts, all tube), this sucker is LOUD. It pushed the HT322 well. I like the warmth of the all tube D-180. I found it very easy to dial in some very usuable, great sounding tones. Ill even set myself up for some flaming and say that IMO, the D-180 sounds WAY better than the SVT Classic I had.
This Mesa IMO doesnt get near the credit it deserves. Its one of the finest amps Ive played through. I dont know how long Ill keep it though. Im still not quite comfortable traveling with an all tube amp. I just dont know about any unexpected problems. If it werent for those small concerns, the D-180 would be a keeper, no doubt.
And for the record, I get more compliments on my SR5 than any other bass Ive owned.
So here are pics again:
