I'm doing a little last minute road trip this weekend from Miami, FL back up to Indianapolis. I've been car shopping for a few weeks, and found the perfect car at a very good price at a dealer in Miami. I was going to have a transport carrier haul the car up here, but the cost was around $1000-1200 so I decided to fly down and drive back (about 1300 miles - 19 hrs). The dealership is right in the neighborhood where I grew up, so I know the area real well.

I'm flying into MIA at 10am on Saturday, the dealer will have someone pick me up at the airport and hopefully I'll be on the road by 1pm. I'm going to stop and meet my Mom for dinner just north of Orlando, and stop in Atlanta to spend the night at my Dad's house. I'll be getting back home sometime Sunday night. My total cost for the trip is the $160 airfare and gas on the trip.

I'm doing this partly because of the good deal, and partly because it will be a fun 2 day road trip (I love driving).

Has anyone else bought a vehicle out of state either directly or through ebay? Did you go pick it up or have it delivered? Did it go well or did you run into any problems?

I may try and stop at a few GC's and Bass Central on the trip to keep it interesting.

If you find yourself stuck in Gainesville, Fl. Sat. night , look me up. I'll be at Lillian's Music Store downtown with the Midlife Crisis Band. I'll be the one with the Bongo.:D

What did you buy, Fortier?

Car guys want to know.
Nothing all that special, but meets the family needs pretty well. It's a black '03 Acura MDX. The new '07 MDX is coming out very soon, so the prices are starting to drop on the previous versions.

I wanted to get one of the new '07 Acura RDX turbos, but I really need the bigger space to hold all 3 kids and STUFF.

I gave my wife the Audi A4 to drive. It has over 90k miles, and she will put many less miles on it than I do, so it will last several more years (if she doesn't crash it  ).

The MDX is the practical family vehicle with 3rd row seat & AWD for the winter. In the next year, I'll probably be looking to fill the need for something a little sportier that will be fun to drive back & forth to work - something like a Z4 or RX-8 or CX-7.

I know what an MDX is. Excellent choice, if I may say so.

The new RDX is pretty nifty as well. I'm waiting for the new Civic Si Sedans to come out so I'll have something else to ogle that I can't afford.

Todd, I'm used to Miami. I worked three winters there. I've been in the craphole a few times since (I'm a Notre Dame Fan). Miami will always be close to my heart, and away from my wallet. I used to stay on Biscayne BLVD., right on the bay. This was in the late Eighties. I'm happily back home in Indiana.

I love the roadtrips! Good luck on yours.
I want to go see a friend of mine (bigdaddycaddy) at the Adam's Mark hotel in INDY. Do you ever go there? Let me know.

I have been to the Adam's Mark a few times for special functions & meetings, but not for awhile. I drive right by it every day on the commute to & from work (I work at the FedEx hub at the airport). A few years ago they had a large outbreak of salmonella at a catered function, and I haven't really thought about stopping in ever since

I moved away from Miami in '83 and have only been back a few times for short visits.
