I know it's a bit of a bad word up here in Canada but have you tried any of the Yorkville stuff? I use a 1x10" combo for teaching/practicing at home/coffee shop upright gigs , etc. It's got OK sound but the price and warranty are killer, another option.

Actually my big cabs have always been Yorkvilles. I have a 1x15 and a big slant 4x10 from the late 80s. The only negative experience is that the speaker surrounds (the material between the speaker cone and the basket) tend to deteriorate over time. I'm just sick of lugging the 410 and a rack case around to small gigs. The old Traynor bass combos are becoming more desirable too. Is the 1x10" loud enough for gigging?

The new Traynor all-tube bass head is stunning, but the weight of the head alone is ridiculous. Maybe if I had a roadie.

Thanks,
Adam

That 1x12 is exactly what I'm looking for. The Walkabout head seems similar in layout to my SWR... anybody know how this amp sounds compared to an SWR?

Thanks,
Adam
I had one and it is a very loud 300watts at 4ohms , I really liked it but just couldn't find my sound in it with my SR5... but it is a great head(except for the passive mid..never did like it)

I've had a Walkabout head for about 2 years now, and it's been DOA for most of it in spite of one trip to the pre-eminent tube repairman in Atlanta and one trip out to Mesa Boogie. :( It's a great sounding, LOUD amp in a 13 lb package, but if it doesn't work, what's the point?

I was a big fan of the passive mid control (mostly since I just turned it all the way up, and forgot about it :p).

I picked up a GK1001RB from GC for cheap, cheap, cheap and it's been a workhorse ever since. I think the Walkabout would win in a side by side comparison (assuming it was working at the time), but the GK gets a nice, warm, glassy sound--especially for a solid state amp.

The Walkabout has been sitting in the closet for about 9 months now. I keep meaning to attempt to get it fixed.....again...but I'm so gun shy now that I don't know if I could ever trust it on a gig without a backup at this point.

that sucks ...
I think this is true for anything though. no matter how kick ass a product can be there's instances where they break on day 1 ...

i wouldnt fret this if you buy your gear at a good store ... they should exchange it for you if any issues come up

Perdy bass indeed.

That MB Walkabout Head. Pardon my ignorance but could it be used as an ordinary head (i.e. it's not just compatible with the cab shown)?
