Once again It's time for me to say a few words of appreciation and thanx to BP and all you Knuckleheads for being such a fine global family for me and for being here and for keeping the EBMM Forum home fires burning all along.:)

It's been 10 months since I hit the floor one day with a CVA :mad:and after 8 months in hospital of which 6 were on rehab 2nd floor, and except for a major part of my survival is owed to my Sweetheart,:) the rest of the credit goes to all of you :)... It's really quite inspiring to wake up wondering who and how many new MusicManiacs have found their way to a new MusicMan guitar or bass and beyond that ... found their way here and joined the Global Gang of THe Loyal Order of Knuckleheads :pIt's quite exciting to read the posts and see the pics of new instruments:cool:catch the vibe of all the chatter and clatter of Knuckleheads puffing themselves up about their fave NFL team or other such life-critical issues,:) not to mention reading BP's reflections on the beginnings of the EBMM legend.

I mean, credit where it's due, you gang are a major part of what keeps me going:cool: ... of course it's frustrating not being able to wiggle a finger on my left hand or carry a beloved SR5 across the room,:( but I'm reminded of how I got my second chance to play a fine bass and the guy who helped me get seriously started playing many years ago ... IN a previous life, I was a "necktie guy":( and a roadman for a glamorous, and uptight multinational automotive corporation ... I spent over 70 % of my life on the road and one night I landed in a bar listening to a country band and envying the bass player who I thought was the luckiest guy in the room ... all the while, people saw my fancy duds and car and figured that I was the luckiest guy ... lucky me,in my spare time, my close friends were all artists and musicians, one jam night I got yapping with one guy about my dream to play bass and he said "hey man, if you really mean that, the way to get started is to go to L&M and rent some gear and we'll help you get going, he was a fine guitarist and somehow known around these parts as "Saint NODISCO", before he passed away suddenly a few years back :(RIP "IAM"... what a friend he became, he showed me a C major scale and a few technique points before introducing me to a local pro bass player who became my first bass teacher and also a good friend:cool:. What I didn't know was how difficult it would be and how long I would need to learn to play well enough that I liked my own sounds. Which is something like recovering from a stroke ... Which brings me to "NOW". yesterday, I met a lady who interviewed me for a stroke recovery program called "Peer mentoring". It's about matching folks like me with folks who have been recovering from a stroke for a few years so that someone like me can get some encouragement and idea about what lies ahead. During our meeting, I was expressing my frustration about not being able to play music for the last 10 months and about not being able to walk normally or move my left arm... to which she immediately shot back "YET" and then reminded me that it's been 10 months for me and that, in terms of stroke recovery, something like beginning to play bass, "THese are the early days, then, she noted that she had her stroke 7 years ago and was still having major recovery moments in her 6th year after ... so, the point is like Big Poppa has been saying to me, the same for stroke recovery or for waiting for a new MusicMan bass or for learning to play well ... the words are "Be Patient".
so, here I am now and the point is, while I GAS for that BONGO5 HSP '07 LE that Psychicpet hooked me on recently, I have to thank all of you for your support and encouragement and for being here and helping to feed my GAS buildup until the day comes that I can ask my songriter buddy "Muzz" to give me a lift out to Langley to fetch a new BONGO5, while he checks out a fine EBMM Albert Lee

So, BIG Thanx YouZ'All for all the fun and tales and pics and for keeping these homefires burning and one of these days, I'm hoping that Peter will get to post a pic of me in all my glory with my old 45 litre Cowboy Hat and a brand spankers new BONGO5.

all the bass,
/PL:)

Pzo, I don't frequent the bass side too much, but had checked out many of your threads regarding your recovery. I think just the fact that you still contribute to this forum in spite of your setback shows that you have a positive attitude as well as a love for music. I wish you well in your healing. Hang in there bro.

Pzo, just keep the faith!!

And as BP suggested a while back... try to make some noises maybe with just your right hand until your left has recovered. Start playing some shuffle blues on the open strings (a couple of ACDC songs can be played like that ;)) -- and venture into right hand tapping techniques... lay the bass down like a steel guitar and start tapping away... when you're left hand is ready to join the fun again, you'll have become a super tapping bass hero!!!

Looking forward to watching your learning videos!!! :D

As Dory pointed out so eloquently to Marlin: Keep swimmin', keep swimmin', keep swimmin' swimmin' swimmin'

Hey pzo

Do you have a mac?

If so you can make music with one hand (JACK DOES EVERY DAY......OUCH!)

Play around with the looping and cutting and pasting and editing of the instruments.... YOu can write songs and make tracks up. is still music let the computer be your hands and channel whats in your head to through your hard drive to your speakers.

Im assuming that you are missing many things......the creative process, the bonding, and the execution. Why wait for your arm when you there are tools for creative expression out there...the boding part is take your backing tracks and post the files here and see if you can get some people to add parts......

if not garage band there are many others that Im sure you can get reccomendations on.....

Pzo,

Just keep chipping away, little by little. I have a few friends who have recovered from strokes with amazing results, over time, thanks mainly to persistence. I'm hoping you'll have a similar story as time marches on.

No, sadly, this isn't true; there are days when I don't get a chance to play bass or....hey, wait a damned minute!

Some good advice in that post, aside from the suggestion that I spend at least a part of each day estrangulando el gallo.

I used to have a MIDI studio and, given my skills (?) on keyboards, you can bet I did much of my work with one hand. (SHUT UP, BP!) Back in those days, it was more complex; cables everywhere, drum machines, sequencers, sound modules....but now you need a computer and a set of headphone and you're off.

Even Oldtoe can do it.

Great suggestion BP,

The main thing is to focus on what will make you better with a new bass as the reward at the end.

I want to know the Country band in the bar that inspired you to start playing!!

Pzo, you've got a great outlook and it's super encouraging. Even though it's via the internet .. it's refreshing to see so much transparency. Keep on keepin on!

Keep your head up PZO.
I still remember you in my thoughts and prayers.
I can't wait for the day I log on here, and see you've posted a new thread with a pic of yourself and a SR5 / Bongo 5 in your hands playing it, or better yet, a link to your You Tube video!

Stay strong.

Best of luck to you, Pzo!

Jack's right: If I can do it, you surely can, sir!

Keep pressing forward!

Pzo, what can I say, I just love the way you handle your situation, a real inspiration to me personally.
Soon enough you'll be learning to play all over again, and boy what a ride that'll be, though I bet you'll be mad with frustration at times trying to make your left hand do what you want it to. But hey, I'm supposedly not having any problems and I still can't make my left hand to what I want it to:p
Also, another vote for making music on a computer, I'm jut getting into it and it's great fun. And quick too!

Pzo, sir, you rock!

Hey Jodi, Thanks for your support, and for asking, it's an honour to make reference to these guys, quite a history they've had, around the world, very fine musicians and playing a wide variety of music with roots in folk and bluegrass ... and a fun bunch too:)

Wow, that really sucks man, i can't begin to imagine how difficult it must be to recover from a stroke. I hope you get better soon and get your groove back on! Good luck man, as you say, all it takes is patience

Pzo I am sending you all the hardhead hillbilly stubbornness I have to get things working for you again. That and my prayers for an accelerated recovery.

Hang in there.
