I know this is not a effects discussion board, so if moderators decide this thread has to go so be it.
Anyhow, I've recently bought 80's Nady TD-1 Tube Distortion Pedal off eBay, and had a couple of question about it.
First off, if anyone on this board has the same pedal (or the Guyatone-branded version), what kind of tube do you use in it? Mine came with Groove Tubes GT-7025, and as GT website promised, it sounds edgy. Too edgy for my liking perhaps. So I was looking for a replacement tube.
Second question is for someone with egineering background. The pedal doesn't have a power supply, instead it powers from 120 V AC. I'm going to Russia for the next month and a half, and as in the rest of Europe, normal volatge avilable there is 220V. What will happen if I plug it in there? Would it work or blow up? (latter seems more likely) What about my MXR 10-band EQ that also runs from 120V?

I can't recommend which tube to use with your pedal, but I can tell you not to worry about it destroying itself in Russia. (Sorry, but in the aftermath of the London terrorist attacks, I can't use the words "blow up" to describe the demise of a guitar effects pedal. Call me a pussy if you want, but I rode the Circle Line between the Aldgate and Liverpool Street stations many times during my trip to London last March. I can't help but wonder what if...???)

Back to your problem, you don't have to worry because you will be physically unable to plug your 120VAC cord into any European outlets. You will have to buy an adaptor from Radio Shack or something similar. I bought Radio Shack's Foreign Travel Voltage Converter 1600-Watt unit. It worked fine for me in England with my sleep apnea machine, and one of my bungalow mates used it for her hair curler with no problems. I'm guessing this thing works all over Europe as advertised.

By the way...I went to England to attend the Marillion Fan Club Convention in Minehead. If you ever get the chance, go!!! Steve Rothery is thee guitar god!!!!!

Enough from me,

Thanks marillion-freak,
I know that the plugs are incompatible (btw russian ones are different from European ones), and I was planning on getting a simple plug converter. I'm afraid that the voltage converter would introduce extra noise.

Went to Marillion Weekend, eh? Cool.

You're preaching to the choir with me.. and there are actually a few of us around here who love Rothery's playing. :)

It's too bad Rothery doesn't play Music Man's, then we could talk about him all the time :D

Gary,

Yeah, it's awesome that Marillion does "swap the band".
I'll bet Steve Rothery would love a Silhouette or a Silhouette Special if he tried one.
