Been looking at inexpensive solid state amps for a little while now.. I've found two that were noteworthy...

Orange Crush 30R
Crate FW65

Does anyone have any experience with these? if you do can you please shed some light on theM?

Try a Line 6. The half stack at guitar center is just amazing. Crate, it isn't something that I would recommend.

I used to let this band rehearse at my house becuase the drummer of my then band was playing with them. Anywho, their guitar player was using the Orange amp and I thought it sounded like complete junk. It kinda sounded like poop on a stick mixed with hot garbage (If you could metaphorically relate that to sound). Maybe it was his crappy setup but It was really muddy and I didn't think any great tonal posibilities were in its future. Hope this helps.....

Inexpensive is a relative term. :D Have you checked out Tech 21? There's usually good deals on E-Bay. These sound pretty good for ss amps.

I have a Crate 65watt solid state. Honestly, it's been a pretty damn good amp, USA made, the built in effects aren't bad at all and the clean channel is great. The distortion is different, it kinda has a fuzzy transistor type sound going on, think Prince on U Got the Look. It sounds great for lead stuff though. I've had it since the beginning of my freshman year in high school, got it new for under $400. It's held up VERY well, it stayed in a very cold garage where my first band practiced, and I had it cranked every time too. Just don't think you are going to get over a drummer with it; you're not gonna. I had mine running through a PA system. But, it's nice for at home and for recording definitely :D
