I was looking around the studio tonight and figured I have three that really mean something to me:

1. Todd Rundgren. I did some photos for him decades ago and he signed one.

2. Steve Lukather. I paid 30 cents for it on eBay. (Okay, I really forced him to do it at Open House.)

3. Tony Levin. I have maybe two bass heroes. TL is numbah one.

Got any that are special?

Jack

PS: Let's get this out of the way. Yes, I have BP's autograph. Yes, it is special.

Nope.

I have always felt weird about asking for autographs for some reason.

I really regret not getting some signed memorabilia at the Open House.

I dont Havent.

When you have a coupla friends that are celebs you see a different side. I can't tell you how many dinners were interrupted with,"I hate to bother you, but......" "My so and so........just " " Hey I met you in the Cleveland airport......Remember I had the two Nathan dogs?? " " My insurance man knows your neighbor's son in law"

THe celeb is in a no win. If they decline they get bad vibed and bashed on the internet...If they sign and talk the person doesnt leave. Meanwhile dinner is cold and the chance to spend time was wasted.

That's why I don't like to do it.

Well, except for Luke. I don't care if I bother him.

I was scared of TL, though.

I am creeped out by autographs. Feels like a weird and compromising gesture.

I've met and had the pleasure of talking with some greats though. That means so much more to me, to see someone as a real person, rather than just a mark of ink to prove I saw 'em.

I had the chance to meet and genuinely talk with Chad Stocker of the High Strung at a very low profile gig last year and that was more inspiring to me than any autograph I could think of.

I normally don't ask. But if they are signing for everyone. Like at the NAMM show. I will get on line.

Oh yes, and I am under strict orders from Beaver Felton to bother Dave LaRue at every opportunity! :D

Got an autograph and hug from Jennifer Arroyo when she was in Kittie. Too bad she's in that other band now.

Got a piece of Kurt Cobain's shirt when he jumped into the audience and got his shirt torn off of him. (I didn't contribute to the violent taking of the shirt.)

I worked in the same building as Chester from Linkin Park. Had a few conversations with him and went to a few of his shows when he was in Grey Daze.

Got Jeff Berlin's sig on my diploma from the Players School. :)

That's all of my "touches with fame".

A friend of mine stole a girls training shoe in a nightclub and had Blackie Lawless sign it. She hated WASP. It was very funny. The girl was very annoying so she deserved it. I just got shivers at how long ago that was!

I've asked for them when there have been autograph signing sessions.

Uriel Jones, Bob Babbitt, Eddie Willis (Motown) - Got a signed drum head because I won it in a charity auction. Met Uriel Jones and hung out with him for the better part of a day while setting up for a clinic he was doing in the evening. He found out in advance about young-ish fans being the ones helping out with it, and he got them to all sign a glossy photo, and made it out to me. Really cool.

Bernard Purdie (Steely Dan, lots of other stuff) - Met him a ton of times. He was selling posters for like two bucks at a drum festival and signing them all as he sold them. He signed my copy of Aja, too.

Bill Bruford (Yes, King Crimson) - I just met him last year. Seemed like a nice guy but didn't want to be there with a bunch of kids shoving paper in his face to sign. that having been said, he signed my copy of "Close to the Edge" because he saw me standing there with it :D

Have been a huge Sammy Hagar fan since way back. I have had the pleasure of meeting him and talking with him on occasion and he has been a class act all around, treated me like a long lost friend. He has signed several items for me over the years that I have hanging in my studio. His warm attitude made me a bigger fan than I was before I met him.

I must admit I got a few at the open house and any gigs I play with famous or infamous people I sometimes get autographs ( depending how we get on) as a memento of the time ( so I can look back in my old age as say when I was your age .....)

i have a ton of sports star stuff signed. when i was a kid my cousins and i were HUGE into collecting autographs... my dad and uncle were super cool about taking us here n there to get stuff signed. My personal favs are a couple Jordan autographs.

The 49ers all met up at the same hotel near SF the day before every game so we'd camp out n get things signed week after week. The nicest of all was Jerry Rice - he hung out with us for a good 45 minutes. super nice dude. I actually got essentially the whole team's signature's on a football that year... years later i gave the ball to my girlfriends parents cuz theyre huge fans and id lost interest in sports.

other than that I've got an autographed Green Day record that I got on eBay and Jesse Micheals from Operation Ivy gave me one of his art peices which is signed as a gift for helping him out with various things. He's also a super rad dude & a good friend.

i never ask anymore. I went to lunch w/ the bassist of exodus today and it didnt even cross my mind. he's a great dude as well... very chill person

A friend from Waterloo, Canada, attended a Victor Wooten concert in Toronto and got this for me:

VWautograph.jpg

Of course, he sent me the real thing (a plain piece of paper) through snail mail and I have it framed in my room. He also got a similar one from Marcus Miller, but it's actually a glossy 8X10 advertisement with his picture that he signed "For Alvaro!".
