Thats pretty funny. "Screws so long they'll stick out the back of most basses." and "buy one, get the second for double the price." lol

It used to be "shielding" to help reduce hum and interference. They also had bridge covers, which were usually stuffed with a foam to mute the strings. Now they are aesthetic and sometimes used as a hand/palm rest (depending on what technique you use).

LOL - That's funny!

It's not a serious ad people, haha, it's a joke!

My dad's 70's P has those covers, one over the pickups, and one over the bridge, when I play his bass, the cover over the pickups just gets in my friggin' way!!! I guess I been loving Musicman too long........gotta play on top of the pickup!!!

And the announcement by itself... If I had read, I guess I would have understood from the start :

Will add up to 4 Lbs to your bass, the idea is that the last thing your bass player wants to think about doing is slapping, he will be plum worn out!

(sounds like a chastity belt promo ad :D )

THE SLAP DETERRENT comes with two Long screws that will hold the SLAP DETERRENT for its life on the instrument and long enough that they will stick out the back side of most basses!!

(could this be serious ?)

and if you CALL NOW, GET A SECOND FOR DOUBLE THE PRICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(OK, you got us, Saxy... beware of revenge : you're moving much closer soon, ha, ha, ha)
