the only thing that hurts me about this bass is that the original string-through bridge was replaced... why, why, why...

I wonder if it's possible to restore it. The bearings for the two large front bolts have been drilled out and filled with wood as well. I guess that one's lost for good. Maybe usable as a spare parts collection... :(

Oh, that's easily restorable all right. Since the string-thru holes are doweled I'd simply track down a top loader bridge for it. The threaded inserts (bearings as you called them) are still the same as the current ones, so no problem there. You could even refinish the body in whatever color you deam of.

Thats a very usable bass, its not like that bridge doesnt work.
Not all original but in very good shape IMO.

Sorry. I thought in terms of restoring it to all original.

Mike, I'm not sure whether you can add the "threaded inserts" (I didn't know a proper term for them, and looked up something seemingly appropriate in the dicitionary) so easily. When I looked at them, I had the impression they were not glued but somehow stamped or shot into the wood with lots of pressure so they'd stay in place. Have you ever done such restore work, or had it done by someone?
