Sunday morning I get a call bright and early (11am) from Victim Nation's drummer. So, i pick up the phone and he tells me that our studio's door was kicked in and, obviously, our room was broken in to.

The owner of the facility had called him an hour prior and said our room was 1 of 5 who's doors were busted open.

so - Matt checked out the room and nothing was gone. Things were rummaged thru but no theft. He talked to the other guys who's rooms got busted in and, again, nothing missing.

Strange huh? I have no idea what the hell happened and if you go thru all that effort why wouldn't you steal some stuff? My guess is that someone left the building's back door unlocked and some junkie barged in looking for a stash of drugs or something.

I'm really happy my stuff's not gone... my backup rig got stolen 2 months ago from my ex-friends who i lent it to and they don't seem too concerned about paying me back so having my main rig stolen would have been a huge blow.

Wouldn't it be funny if there was a B&E-er who B'ed and E'd and then left stuff there instead of took stuff? Like a plate of cookies or something?

phatduckk - glad to hear your gear is ok. I hope the owner will beef up security now. Maybe some keyless swipe pad and other "harder" to break stuff.

In the words of Les Claypool.....Is it Luck ? Very strange nothing was taken. It also sucks about never seeing comp for your backup rig.

this episode serves as a nice "i told you so" to my bandmates... they give me a hard time for always taking my basses home (mostly joking).

i figure i can replace amps and cabs but getting a good feeling "player" stolen would hurt way worse.

but ya... all's well. now we have 2 bolt locks on the door so it'll be nice n secure

Guys - hopefully there's an insurance agent someplace in the forums, but my $.02 worth of advice - three words- PERSONAL ARTICLES FLOATER. Call your homeowner's ins. agent and ask for a quote. Most of us have $500 or $1K deductables on our homeowner's or renter's policies. In my case, the floater is surprisingly inexpensive (less than $100/year). High-dollar items (eg, $6K engagement rings) have to be appraised and put on the schedule, but I have a blanket that covers stuff under $5K with no deductable, just need the receipt. We all hate getting ripped off; I'm happy your thieves got spooked or whatever.

ya people can really suck. but seriously... if you're gonna break into a studio with thousands of dollars worth of gear in it why the hell wouldn't u steal stuff?

Because they have no idea what the stuff is worth, no idea how to make money on it, and possibly don't have the means to carry it away. Sounds as if someone was looking for drugs, because, as we all know, us musicians cannot play a song worth a damn if we are not stoned, or snowwhited or whatever....

Reminds me of a joke I read once.

A guy parked his car and left his trombone in his back seat. When he came back he saw his window had been smashed in. Fearing for his trombone, he ran up to his car. To his surprise, there were now three trombones in his car! :D

Someone broke into my car a long time ago and only took the change that was in the ash tray (<$1). I was very surprised as my stereo at the time was sitting on the floor in front of the stick shift and could've been easily ripped out.

Many homeowner's insurance riders won't cover equipment used in commercial ventures (i.e. stuff used playing in a band with paying gigs). Just make sure the rider will cover you in this case.
