Still tweaking the pedal board for the new Axis SS. So far I have tried the following through either a Dr. Z Maz 38, or Super Reverb ReIssue.

Tim, King of Tone, Hardwire CM-8, Rothwell Hellbender, Barber Small Fry, Fulltone Robin Trower Overdrive.

This is my first guitar with humbuckers and I can't seem to dial it in just yet. Any suggestions.

Xotic BB Preamp all the way my friend...such a warm and transparent overdrive. Check out Andy Timmons demo on YouTube.

Dang! Wouldn't you know it. I have owned both the Hermida Zendrive and the Xotic BB at one time or another but didn't like them with my single coil guitars. Well, it wouldn't be the first time I sold a pedal just to buy the same thing at a later date.

Playing the OD game is a disease ... never ends.

Most of my amps are gainy and I naturally like the sound of them. I'm fond of the Tim, but more in front of a Marshally amp. Bought the "Telos" pedal from Psionic audio a while ago, I like it much better (combination boost/OD/buffer with multiple settings). Works better and sounds good in front of a Fendery amp to boot.

I've got a Wampler Hot Wired. I'll pull it out of the closet and give it a try tonight.

The pickups in the Axis are so hot most of the pedals get a little too "crackly" when I use the neck pickup. The bridge pickup sounds pretty much phenomenal through just about all of them.

I'm using an Xotic AC Booster, RC Booster and a Fulltone Fulldrive II (not at the same time - for different tones) with my Axis into a BadCat Cub IIR.

Wicked! Couldn't be happier.

Years ago I happened upon a website by a guy who made his own pedals and he was having a special so i took the chance. 99 dollars and it was the best 99 i have ever spent the pedal is amazing. after i ordered it the guy had great communication andasked what i wanted it to sound like , it has a fat switch and a 3 way clipping switch.the pedal is based off a vintage ts 808 go check it out "effectspedalboutique.com". unfortunatley that was many years ago and they arent 99 dollars anymore. but check it out its worth it and i think they have some videos and sound clips on the site
the pedal is called SRB 808

1. BB Preamp. great for any style. Not as mid heavy as the TS9. Reacts to picking very well. Lo/Hi controls for extra full sounding tones.
2. Coffin Case Blood Drive- (actually made by MXR) Really nice warm full sounding overdrive/distortion. Really good for metal.
3. MXR Distortion III- Nice TS copy with True Bypass and a touch more gain.
4. MXR Classic Distortion- Ever so slightly higher gain than the Dist III and just a bit more scooped sounding.
5. TS-9 great for lead tones.
6. Boss SD-1 bit more gain than the TS9.
7. Blackstar HT Drive. Amazing Tube driven pedal that does NOT sound like a pedal at all nor does it need a pedal to boost its sustain.
8. Blackstar HT-Dual 2 channel overdrive/distortion that totally kicks ass. I can get pretty much any sound I want out of it with minimal tweeking.
9. Marshall Blues Breaker II- Good for a clean boost.
10. Danelectro OD 2- smooth overdrive with Lo/Hi controls for extra full sounding tones.
11. MXR Custom Shop Overdrive- This one is actually the MXR ZW44 (Zakk Wylde Overdrive in a different housing). The only tonal difference is that there is a switch inside that cuts a bit of the mids and ups the gain ever so slightly to make it the ZW44. With the switch the other way its more organic and less gainy with a nice sustain.

sd-1 if you are boosting an already dirty amp. All xotic pedals are cool. Every one i've played through sounds great.

Certainly the Xotic BB is getting mentioned quite frequently. I think I'll try a BB+ and see how it goes.

Many thanks for all the great suggestions. I've had a ball checking out the demos and the web sites. The new Axis is such a killer, I want to do it justice on my pedal board.
