Hey all, I'm wondering if it would be possible to fine grade wet sand down the paint on a Sub 1, to get it level, and then clear coat it with polyester?

Hopefully someone from EBMM might chime in and offer some advice.

What do you guys think? I'm wondering if they used anything in the paint to cause the orange peel like surface, or if it was just the painting method they used to get it that way.

If it's possible to do this I think I might try it when the weather gets warmer.

I tried to do that initially with my sub 1. The paint thickness is not even enough to just sand as I broke through in random places to wood. I also did try to leave some of the paint in place and anything I tried to paint over it lifted it. The headstock was the exception and did fine with a water based clear urathane spray.

I did not find it difficult to completely remove the paint later, however.
