I play punk/hard rock and I play pretty hard. I normally use Beefy Slinkys 11's. I've been using them for about 8 years and I've been pretty happy with them. I end up breaking them as they get older, but that's natural. The breakage on them is pretty normal for my style of playing. I can get a good 6 weeks of good performance from them before they start going downhill.

I decided to try the Paradigm for their supposed "unbreakable" durability. I play 11's and I slam the strings pretty good but nothing like how they do in the videos. I changed the strings on both guitars with Paradigm 11's. One guitar had a setup 5 days before. I use a V-pick Snake so the pick is really on the heavy, heavy side. I always bring 2 guitars with me in case I break a string. Well after the 3'rd song my D string broke. I changed guitars and the second to last song I broke 2 strings on the same song. What are the chances of that happening?

Unfortunately, I did not save the receipt for the 2 sets. How often does anybody save the receipt? I know what to expect from Slinkys because I've been using them for a while.

I have to rate the Paradigm strings an "F" for me. Breaking a string on my main guitar is one thing, but then breaking 2 strings on the same song with your backup guitar is totally unacceptable in my book and I always keep my guitars in good working order. I guess I'll go back to the Slinkys, they don't cost 15 bucks and they don't break right away.

Sorry Ernie Ball, Paradigm didn't work for me.

I guess one man's unbreakable is another mans "just broke it." Honestly, I'm surprised ANY strings last with that heavy of a hand and a Vpick Snake. Change your pick to a normal, even heavy normal, pick and I bet the string breaking stops. But using a Snake when you hammer the strings that way... IMHO, no strings have a chance to survive that for long.

I've had the Paradigms on mine for a week or so now, and I'm pretty pleased with them. To me, they sound a bit louder than the Slinkys and the attack seems a little more pronounced, otherwise they feel like my Slinkys. Then again, I don't hammer on my strings, so breakage has never been a major problem for me. Whether I continue with Paradigm or go back to Slinky will largely depend on how long these last.

Out of curiousity, how the heck do you play with a 4mm pick? I struggle with 1.14. :)

Very similar, but speaking purely for myself, I prefer the M steel strings...

Read my review and comparison to the M steels:-
Ernie Ball Paradigm Strings Review - The Hobby Guitarist
Thanks for the reply, Alfa. I have Cobalts, M-Steels, and Paradigms, and I'm trying to decide which one I like the best. I like them all to some degree. I find both the Cobalts and the Paradigms more flexible than the M-Steels. The Paradigms sound good, but they don't have the volume boost of the Cobalts or the M-Steels.

I just read your reviews of the Paradigms and the M-Steels, Al, and I agree with what you have to say in them. A lot of food for thought there, thanks for posting the link.
