After reading 'Flukather's' very sad situation, I thought maybe a thread may be in order, to hopefully avoid any repeats.

I like the EMG's myself, but I'm a tinkerer I could see trying something else out at some point.

What are some Single Coils that will fit without body modifications (I understand the pots and cap values have to be changed).

Off the top of my head:

Lace Sensors
Duncan JB Jr or 59's

Anyone care to add? Anyone with experience with a small pickup winder that does this kind of work? Lollar, Fralin, etc?

Let's get a list going.

Here's a thread on it as well.

Right. That thread shows a Luke routed to accept Kinmans. Although it mention's _arvin pickups may work?

My thought is complete drop in without body mod.

So basically a single coil without the V shaped base plate.:)

Seymour Duncan STK-S4 classic stack plus pickups, no hum. They fit perfectly and sound amazing

Yes I have, it is so easy to install. It's almost as if Seymour Duncan made these especially for the Luke they fit perfectly. I also installed a 59/Custom hybrid in the bridge position and that also fits perfect. The little square feet on the humbucker fit exactly in the rout, no mods necessary. I'll try and borrow a camera for some pics

Maybe this is stating the obvious, but EMG also makes passive pickups, and I imagine they'd fit perfectly into the Luke and be easy to swap in.

Great replies so far guys, thanks!!

Like I said, I'll likely stick with the EMG's when mine arrives, I do like them. But I thought it would be a cool resource for others.

Too bad the Duncan Duckbuckers and Vintage rails have the V shaped plate, as that would be another great option from the tone perspective. But I bet the new Stack's sound great.

What do you think of the 59/Custom hybrid?

I have a JB/Custom hybrid, and I love it. I'm getting ready to make a Distortion/Custom or Distortion/59 hybrid, I'm not sure which one yet...

The 59/Custom hybrid Fantastic! I love it. At first I liked the EMG's, but there is something about them that I just can't put my finger on. I guess I just like passives better

I have to agree with everything you're saying! I'm the same way, I love EMG's too, but there really is some weird quality to these pickups that make them sound wonderful. People don't know what they're missing. My JB/Custom 5 hybrid is pretty much right behind an 81 in output, and really has some great harmonics. I can't wait to see how the Distortion/59 hybrid turns out.

To me..the EMG's have this 'coloring' effect. You either dig it or don't. I've gone back and forth with them for years depending on what amp I'm using.
