Yesterday I lost a friend. He was a friend first and a customer second. His name was Pat Bonham. HE was involved with our stuff for the most part of 30 years in Australia.

I met him in 1974. I was a wild guy entering the business and he was partners with a guy named Peter Hayward (Who also passed away).

Peter and I were like oil and water and Pat was always excited and positive. Qualities that
he carried throughout his life. When you are coming up in a business many people dont want to listen to you they want to go to the top. Pat never did that...he showed interest and respect from day one. I saw history repeat itself with Brian and Pat working a few NAMM shows ago and I remembered what Pat meant to me way back when.

Many people can try to manufacture passion, with Pat it came naturally. I remember driving him to the Sundance saloon in 74 to hear Albert play. I remember playing Pat a demo of Biff Baby's Allstars and him insisting on bringing us down there....not once but twice! He arranged clinics and gigs and drove us all over the country....(ok we flew to Adelaide and Freeemantle) Im sure he lost his ass but I'm also sure that he loved every minute of it.

When he found out about Anthony Kim and my involvement I heard from him a bunch but didnt hear from him for awhile and lept meaning to check up on him. I didnt know he had gotten sick. I feel badly that I didn't get in touch.

You get lucky a few times and get to have someone in your life where only good thoughts and feelings are associated with that special person. Pat Bonham was at the top of that list. I'll miss him.

Here is to you Patty!

Very sorry to hear of your loss. In this great industry we get to meet so many people but there are only a few who create a special friendship because of what they give from the heart.

Our hearts go out to you and Pat's family.

Very upsetting news, sorry to hear that. Hopefully the good memories of your friend will help you and his family come to terms with his loss.

Great man. I only had the opportunity to hang with Pat a few times, he was one of those guys that you feel like you've known for years after hanging out for a night! RIP Pat

and the reason why you do what you do is passion BP...thats why you dug him......thats the whole problem with bizness these days ..people are in it ONLY for the money ...there are still few old skool industry guys around ,that understand you can make the money AND love and be passionate about your industry ......i work on the weekends for my mother and father in law ,....every friday night and every saturday for the past 23 years ...because of passion ...i have a regular job as a sales rep in the Beauty biz....and would jump at the chance to be at the store full time, but there is only so much room .....but i LOVE being there surrounded by all things musical and being a positively charged cat anyway ...i know that someday i WILL be there full time ......great story BP, always a passionate dude in all you do....thats what makes you different....you still feel ....a guy told me once ..in order to make a million dollars....the first thing i had to do was go to the hospital and get my feelings ripped out.....i gave up on that guy ,that day....i think you/I... can do/be both

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. It sounds like he was an amazing man. Generosity in business and personal life is a quality that seems less abundant than it used to be.
