I've had the album for a few weeks - it's very good but WHAT has he done to the bass sound?? If you read the Bass Guitar Mag write up from a couple of months back - well let's just say he's done this on a different make bass (you know - the vintage route!!) - Jamiroquy to me is based on a fundamentally strong bass sound - which is not achieved on this album IMO.

Nice playing and album though.

Unfortunately the album is not out yet in the US. I believe this is actually the first full album on which Paul plays. The last album was played by several studio cats. I'm not sure what basses he used exactly(Probably a couple Vintage Fenders and perhaps his Avella Coppolo), but he uses an A-Designs REDDI DI live and in the studio. I have one and I absolutely love it.

That A-Designs REDDI sounds really good.

I read he played on a track on the last album and used one of his pre EB Rays plus a P bass - the studio cat work sounds like Musicman as well, and the previous guy, Nick Fyffe used Musicman on most of the recorded stuff (though not live). Paul had been using MM basses live as shown by the pics - I'll be interested to see what he uses on their tour which starts soon - and will hopefully be getting to one of the gigs.

His basslines are really funky and his use of effects is genius.

that track with a P and a Stingray would be Runaway (which I always felt was somewhat influenced by Roy Ayers' Running Away). I think it's the only track he played on that album.

regarding the live shows, he has said more than once on interviews that he loves the Stingray's ability to cut in a live mix and he does seem to rock that white SR5 pretty often in recent gigs.

I am a big Jamiroquai fan (I paid good $ for the album as an import) but this album doesn't contain the kind of songwriting that I feel they are capable of. Well played but nothing that really moved me. I have to agree with the bass sound as well. It's mixed in a very Adult-Contemporary way in general and I think the bass punch has suffered.

I have seen him rocking those Stingrays live lately! I think I usually prefer Jamiroquai live any how.

Blind Lemon to Spud at the last Knucklehead Bash in London
"Spud will you go back to the exhibition centre with .... to get some guitars a bass and some stands?"
Sure says Spud, then is bemused as to why so many people were stopping him and talking to him!!!
... it was Paul Turner. A real gentleman who came over to me the next day and thanked me for my help.
A REAL nice guy!!!
