Hey guys, I've got a newbie question. I was wondering how exactly BFR worked. I understand with PDN instruments, and limited number of each are part of the specific PDN run, and the dealers are the ones who put in the orders. Do BFR instruments function the same way and we just have to wait and see what options they are providing, or is it a call up your dealer and have them request stuff you want?

Any explanation would be helpful. Thanks guys!

Will BFR model be more qualitative then regular MM or it is all about outstanding look and exotic mats used to craft it?

Both tend to provide significant departures from standard
wood such that it's qualitative. BFRs seem to be of a more
limited quantity, whereas a PDN run can be much larger if
there are sufficient orders placed for it.

Hmmnnn ... gotta clarify: "Qualitative" is not meaning to
imply that std products are of a lesser build standard ! It's
qualitative in the sense of "difference is not just cosmetic,
but actually sonically different". Frinstintz, altho the SR30
is neither PDN nor BFR, everyone who's ever plugged one
in has commented on the sonic difference of the mahogany
body [other than the hog bod, SR30s are standard wood].

Also, if memory serves, the BFR models predated the development of the PDN.
I'm not saying they were the same thing.
The Ball Family Reserve were developed to be limited editions with upscale materials (those highly sought-after rosewood necks, frinstanz (oops, been reading too many Golem posts)), fancy tops, you get the idea, with same build quality as the mainstream basses. Low volumes, of course. For example, the first roasted neck models were BFR, I own one, and its fantastic.
The PDN is more of a marketing channel strategy for the BFR-type limited editions from now on. PDNs help keep your independent dealers with the ability to carry unique product that isn't duplicated in the mass channel (GC), while preserving the ability for GC to have some unique product as well thru their special runs.
Preserving the heath of both of the sales channel (while making some unique stuff that the knuckleheads can drool over) is marketing GENIUS.
