Hi! I bought a black Ray35 and am hoping to refinish it a la Tony Levin's Stingray 5. See, I am in a Peter Gabriel tribute band and would really like to have my bass look the part (I won't be shaving my head, though.). Does anyone know what the right shade of peach I should shoot for - like a pantone number or something? Fender's shell pink looks too light to my eyes.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

Edited to add:
I visited the pantone site to search - which of these comes closest to the shade MM calls "peach" ?

Search - find a PANTONE Color - type in PEACH in the search box.

Why fuggup your ax if you won't fuggup your hair ?

Plus, your hair grows back, but it's a one-way mod
for the bass :-(

I'm not "fugging" up anything, I want to paint it to match the 1989-1990 era peach musicman basses. If anyone has any helpful info, that would be great.

I know what Tony used to call that color. I know what Sterling called that color. I think I'm pretty close with the Barbie suggestion.

Easy, bro. You don't realize that Gollem has a unique way of... well, everything. It was a joke.

Regardless of what Tony calls the color, the peach has more orange in its pink tones than a barbie doll. I suppose I could take several pics of the peach basses people have posted on here and see if they can get close, but do paint stores custom mix poly paint to be sprayed?

Anny good paint shop should mix it up for you!

Right, but I am not planning to brush it on - do paint shops make custom spray paint? If they do I and I try to match, there are numerous pictures I could bring, but there is no reference as to which one is the matching MM color - pics taken outside, pics taken under stage lights, pics taken with cameras of varying quality affecting the color, the quality of the ink in my printer, etc. There are a lot of variables to consider.

Peach is a tricky colour to photograph. As you say, there's many variables, it can look pink in some pics and orange in others. I'd be happy to send you some of mine but I'm not sure that would get you any closer?

My SR4 looks quite pink in the flesh, whereas the SR5 also has a distinct orange hue to it, presumably through yellowing of the clear coat. They are very similar though when comparing the non-exposed colour under the guard or in the neck pocket.

You'll find some nice pics a guy from Germany posted in a recent thread on here about what turned out to be a SR5 prototype:

And you probably know the following video of Tony Levin using his SR5 to demonstrate the EHX Big Muff pedal - in a more neutral lighting when compared to his stage appearances!

Autobody shops know where to order various type of
spray-ready paint ... clearcoat, metalic, opaque, trans
tints, in lacquer, acrylic, etc etc.

Yes, also spray paint is made on order from 1000's of coulour options. But as you say it will be near impossible to match it perfectly. Let a shop make you one can, then try finishing a scrap piece of wood with it. If you like it, do your bass.

OK someone has to say it...

If EBMM won't reveal the secret, then I would just move on with what others in this thread have suggested. Not trying to sound harsh, but waiting for someone from the company to reveal the answer is probably futile.

Thanks for the info! I have checked out bunches of pics on here and elsewhere and there is a spectrum of colors that are all "peach"!

Could you take a look at this link and tell me which one you think matches your bass? That might be the easiest way to get it sussed out.

Oranges / Peaches - Spray Paint - Paint -*The Home Depot

I don't have either of my two Peach basses at home these days. But I don't think I'd be confident anyway to make that call from a colour chart on a computer screen. There's just too many variables, and who knows how any of those colours will actually look out of a spray gun?

Have you tried EBMM Customer Service?

Well, it wouldn't be a true musicians' forum without at least two people per thread who 'don't want sound rude, but . . .'.

I came here looking for advice on how to get the closest paint color; at no point did I say I was waiting for someone from the company to give me the answer. Since I am not about to bring a barbie doll to an autoshop to ask them to analyze and I don't have a spare peach bass to bring in to be matched, I was looking for other suggestions.

True but the general concensus seems to be that:
1- a good paint shop should be able to mix you anny colour you come up with.
2- it is a near impossible mission to get the colour spot on. When looking at pictures there are too many variables. And when looking at paint swatches the coulour will always come out a bit different then on a guitar.

So what most of us are trying to say is, you best leave the bass as it is unless you realize the coulour will not be musicman peach. If you are fine with the coulour beeing some sort of peach but not dead on, then go ahead and let it be done.
