Oh, and I forgot mention to buy your pickguards from EBMM, not those other fWoDlks who deal with aftermarket stuff. Not only do their pickguards not fit well, but they are actually more expensive than straight from the factory. Says it all about customer service right there, really.

Looks pretty cool that. I looked at the title and i had my doubts but it looks alright.

And i bought my PG from sound control, fits fine, would have been stupid to order from the factory considering i live in the UK.

I really like it... but just not sure if I like it more than the standard black one. I kinda like the beige in the trim of the original one.

I like it, it matches up well with the lettering on the headstock.

Actually, I got the idea from the dot inlays. As delivered, they sort of stand out with little visual relevance to the rest of the bass. With the pearloid pickguard, they seem to connect a bit more. I hadn't thought about it, but the silver letters on the headstock seem to stand out just a bit more. Good eye!

I wonder what the 30th Anniversary would look like with an abalone pickguard...

I really like that, I may have to swap mine out too. I did not think it would look that good, boy was I wrong.

Nice job, I think that looks very classy. I may have to consider that myself.

the abalone would be quite interesting,

white pearloid looks nice

Abalone would look similar to pearloid but darker. It would be more relevant to the lettering and possibly the fret marker dots. It would also be closer to the original black pickguard.

I figured the pearloid would bring out the slight luminescence in the transparent finish. As stock, it looks like a dark red or burgundy. With a lighter pickguard, you can see a bit more depth to the finish.

I like the contrast the pearloid brings but would be very interested to see one with an abalone pickguard.

I messed around with the instrument builder on the EB webpage http://www.ernieball.com/mmonline/build/ (I'm going to miss that).
If you use the Candy Red color StingRay w/matching headstock and rosewood neck, it will give you an idea of what it may look like. I think the white pearloid wins although they don't have an abalone in their file. The black pearloid option looks cool too.
