Hi, NOT being lazy, honest, just been/am real sick so would help for your "first hand" opinions.
My move back to UK is few months away now (OMG, soooooooo much left to do with so little time and stuff to sell in order to move, timing is critical, stress stress stress).
Anyway, My SS Axis (both hard and vintage) are my FAVE guitars. I am NOT selling my Les Paul (maybe be like the "Brian May" thread as for sentiment, but not an option), but maybe my Jackson.
Anyway, main question is....... I have been looking at/gassing for an Axis. But then, I am NOT a huge Floyd fan and to be honest, apart from the FLoyd and 3 way I see NO difference between my guitars and an Axis.
So my question is, to those of you with an Axis (any flavour) and a Petrucci, is the neck very similar? Thats is asymetrical. The neck on the Axis is #1 why I love em so much. So whats the neck on the Pet like?

Also, different question but may as well ask here.
I am looking at a home recording setup (studio in a box deal) for clips and simple jamming/jotting ideas.
I am mainly looking at a Zoom MRS-8 as it has most I think I could ever need (8 tracks, CD quality, SD card, drums,bass,batt./mains power, small, etc.) anyone have one or any opinions?

Thanks,
Nick

Hey Nick,

the neck profiles on the Axis and Pets are really pretty different. The Pet neck is wider and much thinner. Not as thin as an Ibanez neck but pretty close. Also I don't think the Pet neck is asymetrical like the Axis.

I don't own a Pet but I have played them.

Hope that helps.

:D I hear ya!

On the other hand I had the opportunity to try out an Albert Lee last week and that neck has a very close feel to that of the Axis. I can definately see one of those in my future!

How's the GAS now? ;)

Owning both, I can tell you that Dodgeball is right, they are very different, and if you LOVE the Axis neck, I'm not sure you would dig the petrucci neck at all.

However, the Pet plays phenomenally well and I would trade the Axis' Floyd for the Pet trem ANY DAY!

I also don't get really that hung up on neck shape. I'm not a "shredder" by any means, so speed isn't really an issue for me. In fact, all of my guitars have different neck shapes and I find changing between them to not be that difficult. Although, of all the guitars I have, the Axis and JP necks are the easiest to play, by far.

Nick,

I think that if you buy from a familiar brand name, you really can't go too far astray with home recording gear these days. I'd bet that you can produce decent quality stuff on any of those units.

I have a Fostex VF-16 (predecessor of the VF-160) and it works great. I think Raz has the Zoom or something similar.

The Boss/Roland offerings are nice, too.

Thanks guys.
Have been REAL lucky thus far with my collection (moreover the fiance not freaking at 5 guitars in 3.5 months LOL).
Just wondered about the Pet.

Was digging an Axis, but to be honest, why? Have a hardtail and Vintage Axis SS which I love and don't see much diff., just Floyd hassles :)

As for recorder. Was looking at a good metronome to aid learning. Then got sidetracked on BKP forum and strted getting ideas of a "stand alone recorder". Heck, has drums, metronome and so much more.
Done alot of research and was looking at a "palm size" Zoom PS-02/04 but for few $$$ more can get the MRS-8 which is true 44kHz etc. And does pretty much the lot.
Sold last of stuff (for now) on Evilbay so can just about squeek one in (missus will think it's a fancy metronome anyway ;)).
