Just trying to get a little petition going here...I absolutely love the Not Even Slinky set...with one exception. The G-string (24 gauge) resonates very oddly, having an almost dull tone. I have multiple guitars strung with this set, in multiple tunings, and this string is always the oddball-sounding one of the bunch.

This is a petition to try and get Ernie Ball to switch from the plain 24 gauge string to a wound 24 gauge string for their Not Even Slinky set. While more difficult to bend, a wound 24 completely eliminates the dull resonance experienced with the plain 24.

I have talked to several other guitarists both in person and online, and all who have used the Not Even Slinky set agree that the 24 gauge string is the bastard of the bunch.

If you use this set and agree with the issues regarding the plain 24 gauge string, please let your voice be heard by replying! Ernie Ball is a great company who listens to their customers' demands, so it's up to us consumers to let 'em know when something doesn't sound quite right! :)

You can buy yourself a single, wound 24 and slap it on there along with the other strings in the Not Even Slinky set. That's going to be your best bet as opposed to an online petition.

First off, do you know why the 24 is "plain" in the first place??

Do tell; I have no clue. I'm assuming to cut down on the extra pennies of manufacturing a 24w (which requires more material, in a core AND wrap)...cheaper to make a plain string. I have no idea though, elaborate, please?

It would almost certainly be a faster way to achieve your goals.

Faster, yes, but not exactly cost-effective. Plus, what do I do with all the leftover 24p strings? eBay?

Hey Tim, that may very well be true (I don't know personally), but the point I was making is what you already know. I would make an assumption that it was thoroughly thought out beforehand by EBMM, and it was not just arbitrarily picked out of the air what strings would make up that particular pack. I know that this doesn't mitigate your frustration.

Never the less I'm glad they offer such a variety of string packs to begin with, and I'm always mixing em' up anyway due to the fact when I break a string (not too often) I open a new pack, so I always have singles here and there.

9-42 pure nickel #2253 - Love em'!!!

@Sepultallifly,
what tuning are you using this for? As you probably know, this set is intended for very low tunings like Drop C or C Standard which means that plain string has been dropped in pitch/tension by quite a bit.
