I opted to put 9-42 strings on my Petrucci axe and the cleans have suffered a bit. So, I am thinking I may want to bring the action up a pinch. Is this done at the two pole pieces like a Floyd, or on the saddles??

Have you read the FAQ? There is some great info about using the truss rod to set action.

I would make sure the truss rod is adjusted for your preferred relief, and then adjust the saddles to fine-tune the action, and make sure that you match them to the fretboard radius. I really don't recommend adjusting the action via the 2 posts, the overall angle of the trem can change and tuning stability can get out of whack.

neck adjustment

The guitar and neck feel is so pristine via it's factory setup, I am beyond reluctant to adjust anything. I may explore using a 9.5 (hi E) set.

I use 9.5-44 on all my guitars including my new JP with great results - I did have to tweak the truss and the saddles on the JP, but I am very happy with it.

Sorry for the hijacking but this thread seems fit for it :D

What are the exact setup measures you guys are using on your JPM guitars? I did my setup according to the EBMM page but might be missing something.
