On the drive home tonight, had an old "misc guitar tunes" CD going... Scarred came on, and a recurring question finally got the best of me.

At the 5:14 mark JP goes clean for about 16 bars, but the first 8 are what I call "razor clean." How does he get this sound? Piezo? Direct to the board w/ bass cut? Normal amp clean w/ bass and mid cuts?

Inquiring minds need to know!

not sure but it was recorded well before JP using EBMM guitars... it is a 'piezo' sounding clean, but im not too sure it is..

I think that's just his old floyd-equipped electric on the middle position of the pickup selector. Some chorus, delay. I imagine it's just running through his regular rig of the time. I suppose there may be other layers there, but I think that's the basic sound. He got the same basic sound live.

Sounds like a good old regular clean electric guitar signal to me.

+2 sounds pretty straight clean to me and definitely not a full-bucking sound, so it's the middle position
