For you Petrucci and Dream Theater Fans.

I had the most incredible time of my life, Tuesday night. I had DreamTheater VIP Backstage Pass Tickets for ProgressiveNation2008 in Chicago. The Meet & Greet after the show was great. Very cool, down to earth guys. We took pictures with the band and got autographs.

I stood center stage, dead center all night long. Petrucci's Wah pedal was literally a foot in front of me. I had to watch out so that Petrucci and LaBrie wouldn't step on my hands.

This pic (from my cell phone) was taken during his solo in "Voices".

And... his sound on stage was Powerful, Clear, and Rocks!!!

I did the meet and greet for the Detroit show. :D I've been waiting to hear "Surrounded '07" or any version for a long time. Plus, I've been wanting to hear "Voices" again. Haven't heard that live for like 10 years or something. Happily, I got both. Really had fun.

I also went to the Detroit show. I live in the Detroit area (Ypsilanti). I drove to Chicago for the show ( wanted seated tickets - row 2, but stood at the stage-center for Dream Theater). Then drove back home next day for Detroit show. But I had 1st row mezz tickets for Detroit (1st come standing room..ARGHHH!)

Where did you stand at the concert? I didn't notice any roped-off area for VIP standing area. There were NO stage bouncers at the Chicago show.

Also: What was this meylee type of shoving that was going on down on the main floor during Between the Buried and Me and during OPETH?

The very reason why I prefer seated venues, even for DT concert.

The group THREE (3) was great!!!! Never heard of them before, but they were much better than BTBAM or OPETH.

There was a roped-off area on the left side of the theater for the meet-and-greet people. We had some tables, seats, I sat on a couch when I felt like sitting. Of course, we could stand too. We were pretty close. Certainly not as close as people on the "floor" where they had the mosh pit. I had no intention of dealing with a mosh pit or struggling for a view. So, I just stayed where I was, which was just fine.

I had heard 3 for the first time the night before the show. I thought they were great too. Also, I thought Opeth was cool before the show, but I never was really heavily into them. I'm really not a big fan of Cookie Monster/Death Metal vocals in general, but I was really getting into Opeth during the show. I'm going to have to listen to them more. I was not entertained during BTBAM. I considered taking a nap on the couch during their set. I was beat after a long day. So, I probably could have used the rest.
