Did he say neck-thru?

There were a couple of proto's a while back, but I missed out on what happened with them.

I liked my neck-thru's but the maufacturerer (J*cks*n) didn't have the finish quality of Music Man - I'd like to see what they could do with a neck thru - I bet it'd be killer.

For a while there was a mahogany neck-thru Petrucci in development. But then they decided to go in another direction, and we haven't yet learned exactly what that direction is.

You can see pictures of the prototype mahogany neck-through if you browse the photos from the Open House... we got to hold that sucka in our grubby little hands!

Anyway, I would think that a 'new' Petrucci guitar isn't what John was talking about... if he mentioned only minor changes.

I think we're more likely to see something akin to that DropSonic pickup in the bridge position, or some other minor tweak.

if they do change it do you think we'll still be able to buy it with both specs or they will just make the new one available

Models change from time to Time. For example- the old Silos used to have different pickups, bridges, tuners, lacquer on the neck, etc.

Artist neck profiles get updated as the artists' guitars wear. And BP has made it clear that the artists sig models should acurately reflect what the artists are currently playing. So if JP wants a change to his regular axe, I'd bet it'll be reflected in the existing model.

+1.

Based on prior dialogues with Big Poppa, I agree with Beej. The guitar being sold would most likely be made to match the one the signature artist is using.

The Y2D and Morse are an exception, though. Both models will continue to be sold concurrently.. I think this is due to the fact that the Y2D was probably more of Big Poppa's idea to revisit the Morse than Steve Morse wanting a new guitar.
But this is sheer speculation on my part.
