Hi, apparently the JP's scale is 25-1/2"... that's the same as my old ESP (f series), but the neck/fret width feels a lot smaller. How can this be if the scale is the same?

It seems like I don't have to stretch as much on wide riffs on the lower frets (which is good) but also like I'll need to adjust to the closeness of the frets on the upper register (which is, for the moment, not good).

Anyway, I was just wondering what the technical term is for whatever measure of dimension is making it feel smaller.

Thanks

The scale length is determined by the distance between the nut and the bridge so should be no different to your ESP.

The neck width can be "whatever" but of course must accommodate 6 (o.k. maybe 7)strings - 5(6) spacings and a bit either side of the E strings to stop em falling off the fretboard.

So if your ESP is tne same scale length then the stretch must be the same.
You may be experiencing a different neck profile which would make you able to stretch that tad further perhaps?

Hi, the neck width and frets are not related to the scale length, the scale length is from the nut to the bridge.
The Nut width is a usual bottom of the neck measurement which gives a clue as to the width of the fingerboard.
Im not familiar with the F series but i would imagine that it would be a fairly flat wide neck given previous experience of ESP's
hope that is a little clearer!
