I own petrucci signature in mystic dream with optional piezo fitted. i am playing this through a Pod XT pro. Best guitar i ever owned however if i play a chord or note and mute it, i am getting a continuing resonance sound through the body and the trem even though all the strings are muted. Recording is impossible as you can't get a silent mute. i have tried the different sockets and switch configurations but this makes no difference. does anyone else have problems with microphonics from the pickups and does anyone no how to solve the problem. It is driving me mad.

are you sure its through the body and trem? a friend of mine that also has a jp wrapped a piece of fabric around the strings, between the nut and tuners, and that solved the extra resonance.

i'll echo what's been said:

the tremolo springs might be resonating after you hit a chord (mine resonates the note 'c') ao putting some tissue in there sometimes helps. the strings above the nut may be resonating too, and some people put a hair rubberband thingie on there to mute those strings. also, the pod sometimes doesn't do too well with high gain sounds and its gate. I usually have the gate at about -50 to -40 depending on the sound i'm going for if its chunky rhythm stuff. its probably a combination of those things, not the pickups at all.

you are absolutely right. after what you said i tried it without plugging in and i am getting resonance off the bottom E and the B string. i will have a look at the trem springs. thanks

It is most definitely your springs. I have 2 JPs, and had to put a little piece of cotton under the springs to dampen them so they don't resonate. Just make sure to use the flat cotton pads instead of the cotton balls. If you use something that is too thick, your springs will not return the bridge to the original position after trem use and you will be flat/sharp!

With my MD JP, it was a C note that made the springs resonate, and with my newest JP, it was an E that made them resonate. It's the only 'quirk' about the JPs that I can find! I'd say that is pretty minor. :)

+1 on the spring noise. I find a folded up paper towel will do the trick and won't bind up your springs.

+1 also spring noise! I've used, believe it or not, a thin old mousepad on some of my floating trem guitars. If it's thin enough, I weave it in between the springs, and it deadens them right up! Very useful if you're using high gain and compression, because this actually silences the instrument well! Best of luck!

It really bothers you guys that much?

I just ignore it, i dont really notice it when the guitar is amplified. I also had the same thing happen all the time on my Fender Strat. I only really hear the spring noise when i play the electric in a quiet room.
