OK… so I recently asked the forum if they had to choose between a Petrucci or Morse, which one would they like and why? Well, I got my Morse last night and, for me, it’s the Morse… hands down.
First off, 22 frets. I know that 2 extra frets on the Petrucci doesn’t seem like much, but for me, it’s night and day. Compared to my Jem, the Petrucci neck just seemed longer and sat farther out.
Next, the floating bridge on the Petrucci… I realized while owning the Petrucci that I rest my hand a lot on the bridge. On most of my guitars, that’s not a problem, but with the Petrucci, it would cause the guitar to go out of tune until I lifted my hand of the bridge. I had to change the way I played in order to make the guitar stay in tune.
Third, the width of the fretboard… the Morse is a tad bit wider… I like that. The Petrucci neck, while being fast and comfortable, was just a tad bit smaller than what I like.
Also, the pickups seemed to “breathe” a bit more in the Morse than in the Petrucci. I don’t know how to describe it… notes just seemed a little more fluid and open sounding. I don’t even know if that makes sense.
Finally, the Morse is purple!!!! I love purple guitars for some reason. While the mystic dream finish on the Petrucci is nice, the purple flame on the Morse is just straight up sexy!!!!
Anyway, the Petrucci is going back to GC tonight. Morse all the way!!!
