My guess is not original. I spend most of my time on the skinny string side of things but I don't recall seeing that on a stock instrument.

You can buy replacement pickguards from Music Man in black or white or you can order from Chandler's/Pickguard Planet for way more choice (I think the make the pickguards for Music Man, they're guaranteed to fit provided you get the right model).

Do you think the note about the pick guard not fitting post 2017 Stingrays is correct? Mine is a 2020 by the serial number. B058659
That is when the "Stingray Special" came out, which has 22 frets. Previous stingray 4 basses had 21, and the classic is one of those that does, regardless of when made. The 70's stingray bass also has 21 frets.

Yes and no.

From 2018 (to current date) the general run of Rays is offered as "Special" instruments which have slightly differently pickguards to the former. Guards made prior to 2018 won't fit the Special Rays.

Although the Specials were introduced in 2018, the Classic Collection Sting Rays continued being made into c.2020. Consequently, a guard made prior to 2018 will fit a Classic Ray up to the end of production.

As to your guard, I can't recall ever seeing one withe the orange laminate.

I took the pick guard off and indeed it does have a Chandler sticker on the back. I like it too. There is no apparent reason it was changed (not hiding anything). I think I will just keep it.
I mean, the orange matches the top, and it's definitely eye catching, as we're all so used to seeing black / white / black pickguards. Maybe the original got scratched up, or maybe they just wanted to be different. Only P/G I have replaced is because it was either really scratched up, or it was discolored due to light exposure (white turned yellow).
