I have actually tried a old silver quarter once. Someone had made them into picks by filing them down. I tried it and thought it was a neat idea, but not very practical for me. I have tried some odd shaped ones, but always come back to the F**der picks, the heavy ones. About the only good thing F**der makes...hehehehehe

I tried a couple of metal picks.. hated them. Gave the 'Stubbies' a try a few times and didn't like them either. After hearing some JP and his crazy awesome technique I tried out those Jazz picks, not for me either.

I'm a Dunlop Gator guy, the purple ones, whatever thickness that is.

Many years ago I knew this guitar player that took a piece of an old cymbal and had it fashioned into a pick...I didn't care much for it, but he liked it.

A few weeks ago I was having dinner at someone's house and the guy had an old beater acoustic guitar. One of the other people there played classical, and he played some nice sounding stuff...then it was my turn, and nobody had a pick, so this guy suggested that I try using a Blockbuster video rental card...and it actually worked a lot better than I thought it would, although it barely qualified as a reasonable facsimile for a pick...

Like Koogie, I use fender heavies. I just switched from medium, and I'm not particular about Fender picks, it's just all they had at the music store. I got this cool purple color, thinking it will accessorize nicely with my new Y2d...

The sentence I just wrote above is the very first time in my life that I have ever used the word "accessorize" in this context, referring to myself. Fashion is something about which I am totally ignorant...

Am I the only one who likes thin, flexible picks? I use .5mm Claytons & .6mm Nylons. I like the tone, attack and feel. Those thick ones just don't seem to have enough give to me. Makes my picking kinda clunky...

i dunno about fancy, but i use the black Jazz III's...like em alot. cant ever go back to normal sized picks, or thinner ones. they stay in my fingers real well too...i cant do the nylon ones, i always have to readjust the grip on them.

Nope, you're the only one. You must be weird. ;)

I feel the same way about Jazz IIIs, except I likes the red ones! Don't care for the texture on the black. Go figure!

I use "Cool" Juratex picks - both the Jazz style and standard style. Lately I have been enjoying the regular style more as I changed my grip slightly (even though it slowed me down I have a little bit more control - a little bit is better than none!)

Yep...the nylon seems to be more flexible than the Clayton 'ping pong ball' material - so I like them slightly thicker. I've got a few tortex .88 mm Dunlops (the green ones) and they're like playing with rocks. I just can figure out how you guys can use those >1mm picks. My brother uses some of those hard plastic purple ones that look like small smooth stones....I keep asking him how he fits them between the strings! :D

Heck, some days I don't use a pick at all - I just make like I'm holding a pick and strike the notes with the back of my index finger nail, and do pinch harmonics with my thumb.

I've used ebony and horn picks for a while. the horn has a sharp, but sort of round tone. Pickboy makes some great exotic material picks. I also love the dunlop jazztone 205's... stiff, but responsize with a round tone. but you know what I REALLY miss; the "bakersfield" pick. dunlop distributed them for a while, then they just vanished. very thin picks, but they were "snappy" and responsive. ohhh... to just have one refill bag....

OH! and the ORIGINAL mel bay picks... they were just fantastic. the new version stinks though. they're too bloody stiff - even the thin ones.

My local EB dealers must totally suck, because I've never even seen an EB pick in my life.

They don't really have anything but strings and the odd bass usually.

Ditto on the Fendery heavys- that's been my choice for the past few years. However I find they wear pretty quickly so I go through a lot of them.

I'd love to switch to EB picks but never see them locally. If I were really comfortable with 'em I'd just order a big box and be done with it.
