Greetings all!
I am super excited about my PDN Bongo 6 HS. It sounds amazing and every one in my praise bands are extremely impressed by it. The combination of the woods and finish makes this an extremely beautiful instrument.
However, I've felt a little "off" by one part of it. We have exotic woods being used to create this amazing instrument (African mahogany, pau ferro, and roasted figured maple). The metal parts are all there for function; these parts are essential for the construction of the instrument. What of the pick guard? The pick guard is the only piece of plastic on this fantastically-built instrument. I'm not talking specifically about a piece of plastic covering up the visual appeal of the wood, but the aesthetic of placing a piece of plastic on an instrument that is all about both visual and aural appeal.
So I have an idea. I am looking at making a wooden pick guard for the Bongo 6. I have already conscripted a friend who will help me make it (as I don't have all of the tools). All I need to buy is the wood, and that is where I am stuck. I have been unable to select a wood to use for the pick guard. I've been looking at woods that are typically paired with mahogany for acoustic reasons. So, I've set up a poll for these woods to see what you all think. If you have any other suggestions, feel free to mention them!
