So I love playing the 20th. But Im not keen on the tone from the bridge pickup. Id like something a little fatter and hotter sounding. Any suggestions on a replacement? Im honestly not sure what sounds good with an Alder body. I know that JP is using the D-Sonic in the bridge on the new pett model which has the same type of wood as the 20th. But I had a JP model with the D-Sonic and it honestly didnt sound very good with my Mark IV. The Mark being a very mid-oriented amp.

maybe a Duncan 59? Have em in my PRS standard 24 and they are sweet!!!! Not a real high gain p/u though. BTW--its not all alder---the p/us reside in the super secret mahogany tone block---hence my recommendation of the 59---the prs 24 is all mahogany.

Hes looking for something hotter, I have a silo special, alder, with a duncan distortion in it and it sounds killer, another idea would be to get a dimarzio super distortion or an evo, remember to get the trembucker spacing, plus with the duncan you can get a nickle cover for it -

What would you think of putting a Duncan JB in it? I have one sitting around although I dont think its Trembucker spacing.

from a tonal aspect.......can't really imagine someone not satisfied w/ those pickups !!!!!! . i think they are voiced perfect for that guitar. to put something else in would offset the broad range of this guitar. if u simply need more gain........i would try on of the many great clean boosters on the market today. duncan has a great one that is alot cheaper than a another set of pickups that will wack the guitar out (imnsho).
that said.....if ya lookin for fatter & hotter....the dimarzio evolution is my recomendation......but it would alot hotter than the neck.

I knew Tommy would be by with some p/u suggestions. I would at least consider the volume booster as Tommy suggested----it will push the amp harder yet not alter the fundamental tone of the stock p/u. I'll wager the bakers at EBMM went through MANY p/us while researching this guitar----and at the 20th's price point the best tone and not cost was probably the major factor in p/u choice.

c'mon
i swapped pups in boutique guitars often. its a matter of taste and very interesting. install back original pups is always a way back to what ya had. but i improved many guitars by changing pups. so why not.

Hmm good suggestion Tommy. I looked into that duncan booster and reviews are very good. It may be just what the Dr. ordered.

i'm not suggesting that swapping pickups in general is a bad idea. lord knows i'm the last one that could make THAT claim !!!!!!! i've swapped out more piskups than hue hefner has swapped girlfriends.
it's just that i found this guitar to sound absolutely amazing just as it is.
believe me i learned the first rule years ago .
(first rule being that there are no rules)

but i do know supurb tone when i hear it. & the stock 20th silo does sound supurb !!!!
:)

Fulltone makes the Fat Boost, and the AC boost and RC boost are other boost pedal options. I'm not opposed to p/u swaps either---my point was that I'm sure more time and consideration was given than usual to p/u choice on this guit as it was a special edition.

I think that more has to do with Ebay. I've been dealing on ebay for about 9 years and this is THE biggest lull ever in the way auctions move goods. Just look at those forums. This is actually a HUGE problem and is why ebay stocks have plummetted. Don't blame the guitar, there are just way fewer shoppers at this point in time.

On the bright side, now is a good time to BUY guitars on ebay.

Dude, I hear you. I offered my Luke up a bunch of times and no luck. Had to put it on eBay a few times to get it sold. Second time the bidder defaulted on me the day after the auction and I had to swallow the fees. But hey, that's life.
