Hi all, I'm putting together a guitar from some amazing Musicman parts. A 1989 Silhouette body (Alder), and a JPX1 BFR neck (Mahogany ebony board). I have to find all the hardware, so it'll probably have either a Fender 2 point trem or a Hipshot contour trem.

I'm planning on going HSH with the pickups, but could go HH, I like the Dimarzio transitions on a mate's Luke3.

I play jazz, fusion, funk and blues. No metal or very high gain stuff, looking for warmth and articulation with some very good stratty in between sounds.

I'd welcome opinions and advice on what to go with here. I'm in the fortunate position that I can afford most of the options I've see so far and want this to be an awesome sounding guitar.

Thanks

Hi Wynn, welcome! Not sure what I should tell you as my knowledge about pickups is limited and everyone will tell his one taste.
With funk and blues it could be a advantage to have a singlecoil onboard, so I would go HSH (IF any humbuckers are needed).
If you could afford why don´t you take a regular model? Is it about the fun to tinker around?
I´m sure that is cool. Pics?

Hi Tim, I'm waiting for body and neck to arrive, but I understand that there will be some work needed on the neck pocket to make the neck a good fit.

The 36th PAFs are great for your applications. The neck pickup is awesome for traditional jazz and blues. I have a set in my rosewood axis, and gigged for years plugged directly into a clean amp like a Twin.

Call DiMarzio directly, they give great phone, and have a 30-day return policy.

PS: I have a set of the Transitions waiting to go into my Y2D. :)

I love the seymour Duncan jazz and jb I have them in my y2d and they are the some of the best pickups I have ever played with.

neck pocket shenanigans

I would think that there would be substantial work required as the 89 silo would be 6 bolt and the jp would be 5 bolt and contoured for ease of access. Not too sure how that would go...

Post picks and review when it is done though, be good to see.

The parts have arrived, the neck pocket is a little wider than the neck, and the body heel has been re shaped to accommodate the 5 screw Jp neck. The neck is immaculate but the body is rough which is good for me as I don't mind working on it as it needs refinishing anyway.
