Pickup swaps on current JP15 models?

I have read that swapping pickups on JP15s can be a struggle due to the routing. Is this still the case for the current models, or is there no problem in swapping them out for some Bare Knuckles for example?
I am interested in the 7 string variant

The pickups in the JP15 are DiMarzio pickups with quick-connect solderless baseplates. If Bareknuckle does not offer a similar option for their pickups then you will need to rout the cavity to fit whatever you swap in.

I'm trying different pickups in my JP15 BFR (rosewood) by swapping the baseplate on pickups I like:

It's a real PITA (you have to unsolder the ground wire from the baseplate and pry it off the pickup, etc, trim down the ears, and enlarge the holes where the screws go through), but IMO totally worth it. I love this guitar, and let's just say, don't love the stock PU's...

Right now I have a Suhr SSV in the neck.

I did find that Kiesel pickups can fit in with minimal alteration (just trimming the ears), but IMO, most of their pickups aren't worth trying. I really like the Holdsworth neck, though.
