Hi, I’m the New owner of a 2021 ebmm sterling5. Suppose to be wired in series except both humbucker in parallel in position 3. If you take a look on picture, pickups only have 3 wires. Black, red and green. How can they split coil in position 2 and 4 with only 3 wires? Can I install a switch to have my Humbucker in parallel in position one when I need to?

You'll need a wiring schematic to be able to do that. A tech will need it

And where I find the schematic? Here’s the picture of the pickup. The only thing I need to know is where to solder the 2 jumped port of the Humbucker on a 6 pôle Dpdt on on on switch.

I gave you the link to Customer Service in my last post above. They have the schematics and may give them to you..

Nothing can be done without a schematic, otherwise it's guesswork.

P.S. to the above. Additionally, from memory, your pickup wires go direct to the preamp circuit board before going to the pickup selector. Not as simple as you may think.
Red and black goes to the pickup switch. Green goes to the treble pot. My photo is to big for forum it seems

It’s a real Music man. Serial number F96078. Such a bad move selling the sterling name. So useless confusion… And yes I followed your hint, I wrote to custome service 12 hours ago for shematic. Waiting for no.

You don't need 4 wires to have a coil split. Many earlier and current pickups had only 3. Basically the series connection is made within the pickup, instead of soldering the end of the north coil to the start of the south coil at the end of the pickup wiring. Even when coil splitting, you still connect those two, you just short them to ground.

I would seriously wait for some responses before messing with the wiring, as you definitely do not seem to have a full grasp of how the pickups are wired internally nor externally.

EBMM and SBMM can cause confusion. Thats why I checked your serial. Both may have the same PUP and preamp but the wiring may not be exactly the same.

Thanks for the answer. Yeah l’ll wait fore sure. Red wire is on D label side and red wire is on A label side of other single coil. Then both coil are linked with a jumper on their A and D. serie for sure. Then the green cable is under some glue… so I don’t know. It’s one step over my knowledge.

I have a Stingray 5H, and honestly, there isn't that much difference between series and parallel with the bridge pickup sound wise. Might be different with a Sterling.

If you look at this website, the first picture shows the typical "three wire" pickup configuration vs the "4 wire". 5 Powerful Ways To Coil Split Your Humbucker - Fralin Pickups

Finaly got the wiring diagram. Nothing about the pickups but I don't think I'll break something if I do some little guess. I'll remove the jumper between single coil 1 out and single coil 2 in, put 2 wire and try with a dpdt switch different possibilities.

Sure, I Think it might be usefull to have this on the forum. Good mod or not. In 2 hours I’ll just reverse 2 wires to try the Humbucker in serie. I’ll record the same riff in both config, if parallel is shitty I’ll inform you. If it sound like a Stingray I’ll have to choose if I let the bass this way or if I want both sound. If it’s the case, I’ll buy dpdt switch, do some guess and once its ok, I’ll share my plan here for future ebmm Sterling users who want a stingray sound.

It works and that Music man Sterling HH 2021 now have a sound close to a Music Man Stingray. I'll put DPDT 3 way switch on both pickups to have all tonals possibilities.

Using line 6 helix native, mesa amp with ownhammer IRs. (my strings are to close to the neck... even more apparent in parallel)

Sample 1 bridge serie pick (stock)
Sample 2 bridge parallel pick (mod)
Sample 3 bridge serie finger (stock)
Sample 4 bridge parallel finger (mod)
