pickups creep

Good morning

About one month ago I purchased a Bongo 4. One problem I am having with it is that both of the humbucker pickups creep higher and higher during the set. By the last four songs in our band last night the rear pickup was touching the string muting them completely. Very embarrassing at what was a big gig for us and not what I expect from a guitar costing me over £1000. In this respect this guitar is worse than my old guitar that cost me £200.

Other aspects of the Bongo as perfect as I would expect. I don't want to have to use something like nail varnish or loctite to hold the pickup screws in place, they should not creep up at all. I play mostly finger style, not particularly aggressively.

The guitar was purchased from Professional Music Technology - Birmingham - United Kingdom.

Short of going back to the store, I thought I would email you first.

That's a common thing on guitars of all price ranges. Loctite is the prescribed solution. If you take it back to the store, that's what they'll use.

Yep, I've had this with the saddles on my SR5's bridge dropping. A little dab of Loctite 243 Blue on the screw threads is the solution. Don't get anything stronger than blue 'cos you'll never get the screws undone if you ever want to adjust in the future.

I've had the same sort of thing happen on my Modulus, FWIW. No big deal, just fix it with some Loc-Tite.

Same thing happened to me with my Bongo 4. I always carry a small assortment of necessary tools in my bass case. I was able to use a small phillips head screw driver to readjust the pickup in between songs on the gig, no big deal, but a little annoying. I found the remedy on this forum to use the blue locktite. I think I paid about 4 or 5 bucks at an Auto Zone for the locktite and it took me about 10 minutes tops to do a permanent fix. The scariest part is making sure you don't get that junk anywhere but on the pickup screw.

I'm curious as to whether this issue has been addressed on future Bongos. Mine has the same problem.

The reason is because it's a basswood body. It is a soft tonewood. Loctite will fix it.

Pardon the confusion on my part......the pickup screws are loosening and causing the pick up to rise? Just curious really, why does that happen?

Makes sense. Unfortunately, I will now have to venture out to the netherland of Home Depot because my local hardware guy doesn't have the blue Loctite.

I guess i was a bit annoyed last night!! My old guitar never did that, and my case of screwdrivers was in my bag, not on top of my combo as it usually is! ah well I actually already have some loctite 243 so ill pour some on the threads. 243 is what holds my aeroplane together!
