I just wanted to know if you have the piezo option on while you play on distorted patches. Because I am buying a JP6 soon and was very happy with the tone, but i didnt know if you are supposed to have the piezo on with distortion...

Thanks

If it works for you then have it on.
- however, it does make your whammy bar "microphonic".

I usually only use it for an acoustic sound patched via my AER.
I did try it once, through an old 18 watt valve amp and using the piezo made me sound like the Rev Billy Gibbons.

+1 on leads. When I play along to JP's solo in Repentance I have the piezo on, but when I play along to his smooth groovy solo in In the Presence of Enemies Pt. 1, I use the neck pickup. See if that helps you hear the difference.

Yo Jimothy, do you use JUST the piezo for Repentance or a mix?

I personally only use the distortion with mixed piezo and mags. Just piezo sounds bad, IMO. :)

It kinda depends on the amp I'm using. If I'm using my crap R@ndall, I just use the the neck pickup alone for all leads, just because the amp doesnt have grail tone, and throwing the piezo on makes the JP sound like a cheap acoustic instead of a Taylor haha. I borrowed my friends Line 6 Spider for a few weeks and the tone on that was much more appitizing, so then I just flipped it to full on piezo. I think the difference lies in how your rig is eq'd, because if I could get some searing tones out of my amp without being overwhelmed by hum, buzz or suppression, I'd probably use the piezo for leads, or a piezo/neck pup mix.

The coolest distorted piezo tone I ever heard scared me. I was in rehearsals for Cats, flipped on my piezo through a Marshall AS50R during warm up and heard the most beautiful overdrive. I was like... um that sounds great bit it's not supposed to do that.

It was my JP6. My JP7 was back in SLO for piezo troubles at the time and I thought "oh crap, not this one too."

It was just the 9volt battery

BTW, the JP7 has been back for quite some time and is AWESOME. :D

I have never distorted the piezo on purpose though...

Yeah, I was just wondering if it sounds much better with the piezo on with distortion. But thanks everyone!

Thanks for clearing that up, Jimothy! I have a Line 6 Spider II dealie as well, but I have a really non-gainy EQ setup, so...meh. I'll stick with mags, but to each their own :)
