A bit OT....

A friend of mine is going to restart playing guitar. His wife told me she's looking for a CD/MP3 playalong device as a xmas present....you plug in your guitar and play/practice with CDs/MP3s played out through headphones/amp

I've never heard of this. Does it exist ? Can anyone point me in the right direction ?

Thanks

Tascam makes a portable CD Bass trainer and I'm sure that they make one for guitar also. It has some amazing features like being able to slow down the song without changing the pitch. You just plug in your guitar and some headphones and put in a CD. I don't have one yet, but if I ever end up in a cover band I will definitely make the investment. They go for about $150.

Here's a link to the guitar model: http://www.zzounds.com/item--TASCDGT1

I have one of these and use the crap out of it. It is one of the coolest training tools ever invented IMO. They do make a Guitar version as well.

I use a Cafe Walter headphone amp, which is about as big as a tuner. This unit has an input and volume control for a CD or MP3 player, so I use my Nomad Zen MP3 player with it. The two units take up hardly any space, so are ideal for travelling.
