I went to the closest place to try out a Bongo today and they had but one in stock. A four string HH model. I am looking to try a 5 string model but there were some other SRs in there to compare against. I should have taken my SR5HH but I am glad I did not. I played through the first amp closest to me, a Peavey combo on the floor.

Bongo: Very full, deep tone with testicles, excellent feel. Lighter than the SRs.

SR4#1: Extra clean sound, sort of like mine, much cleaner than the Bongo.

SR4#2: Maple neck with a double pickup at the bridge and a single at the neck. This bass was made for slappin. I can't get my SR5 to sound anywhere near this one. I really liked it. All natural finish with the maple fretboard that I always wanted.

I will have to go back for round 2 when they get a 5 string Bongo in stock and I will take my SR5HH to compare.

So far I am hearing a big difference between the SR and Bongo.

I just want to make sure I can put flats on a Bongo5 without torquing the neck.

What TK said Rex said.

They are different. But in a good way. In a way that makes you want to own the differences.

I've had flats on mine for about 6 weeks now, no issues. Strangely though, when the weather turned last week, the neck flattned out on me a bit. I actually had to loosen the truss a bit, to put some relief back in. This is the 1st bass I've ever owned that I had to do that with. Ususally I'm tighthening them up to take away relief, go figure
