In my opinion, the significant factor of the BFR is the tone block in it. It seems to make the guitar sustain a little better.

That isn't to say that the standard Luke doesn't sustain, because there is certainly plenty.

If it helps, and you like the standard Luke, then staying away from the BFR won't hurt as I think if you had them side by side you could notice the difference, but would it be enough????

Although the Maple tops on the BFRs are absolutely stunning and hard to get away from.......

I also have to say of the EBMMs I have, the Luke is the most fun to play. It's seems to be the one that pulls stuff out of me that I never thought I could play, and I am not even really that great.........

Can u describe the tonal difference?...I assume the playibilty is the same ....does it have more high end with the maple Top...or maybe More bite?

What I hear when Luke plays them is a thicker sound in the BFR.

my wallet is terrified to even ponder playing the BFR....

You know, even Luke plays both the regular ones and the BFRs on stage during the same show. So, even he seems to think that the regular ones are still fantastic enough to keep playing them. I think he plays them just as often, if not more often than the BFRs.

That happened to me once, actually went to get one of those rosewood axis models, but the plain black luke won.

I once found a lonely black luke on a GC too, in Orlando I think. I wasn't shopping guitars so I didn't give it a complete test, but I grabbed it to test the delay pedal I was interested in and played only cleans though it. The cleans were good but not "my" sound, I missed the out of phase positions on my silhouette, and the neck was... different. I got used to it, but I can't say if it's better or worse. Had I had more time I would have fired up a tube amp and played the hell out of it on the lead channel, but I couldn't. It was still a great guitar, but not the one for me.

Props to GC for carrying at least one of them on many stores. They should carry more models like that, though.

The Cincinnati GC had a Luke in their high-end room a few weeks ago. I didn't have the chance to check it out, but it sure was pretty. Luke Blue I think.

I'm gonna have to go back and see if it's still there. Need to enlighten myself to more EBMM models than just JPs.
