Well I had the opportunity tonite to play one of these through a line 6 flextone thingy and I have to tell you guys I way preferred my silhouette special. I was curious about them becuase they are so pricey and they have a good rep but the silo had a better neck and the bridge design on the EB guitars are way nicer. I know Big Poppa is gonna chime in and say hes friends with John Suhr but the silo had as good a quality frets and everything else and its a way sharper looking guitar and my silo sounded cleaner and crisper, granted I did change the pups when I got it but it was all around better feeling and sounding guitar, so to all of you guys who are curious about missing out on a 3,000 guitar, you aint' - im not going to tell you guys what I paid for my silo special new but it was a great deal and I am so happy with this guitar right now! vivas EB!

WOW!! This post is quite timely for me.
I Played 3, Yes, 3 Tyler strats last night. A guitar that I have been lusting after forever!!
While they DID sound Fantastic they played nowhere Near as well as my Lukes.
I was Shocked!!!!! My Luke models also sounded just as good to me.
I am sure alot of it is the fact that I have been playing the Luke model Forever. Yet I was very underwhelmed overall with the Tylers.

I then played a 20th Anniversary Silo. WOW!!!! ....
I mean WOW!!!!!! What an Unbelieveable guitar!!!!!!

dont forget guys ... a wise man that hangs out here likes to point out that its not "versus" its "or"... its not "better" its "i like".

just a friendly reminder. carry on

I am pretty sure that is how I phrased my post...?
"...... alot of it is the fact that I have been playing the Luke model forever"
I made no disparaging remarks, simply related that The guitars didn't play as well as my Lukes. Most likely because of the above statement.:)

Im not friends with John Suhr. I barely know him but he makes guitars in America and is a very very talented man. I dont know James Tyler either.

THanks for your kind words regarding ours.

I have yet to play a Suhr.... I will at some point and I have high expectations of the experience.
I will say that John Suhr is a Very Cool guy and I am addicted to Any amplifiers he makes or mods. He did some mods to my CAA 3+SE and it sounds and plays beter than any amp I have Ever owned. Suhr is someone who always goes the extra mile with his products and customers.

I played some tylers and suhr's over the summer. Great build but not worth the £'s IMO.

I am sticking with my balls.

The most playable guitars on the planet.

My local guitar dealer stocks an extensive range of Suhrs which I've been trying out over the past couple of years.

Price wise I was able to custom spec a Suhr for the same price I paid for my fully loaded JP7 in the UK - I think it's pretty good value for money considering I could choose from 11 neck dimensions, 4 neck radii etc. I was even able to choose the type of figuring in the quilt top!

In terms of playability my Suhr plays as well as the Petrucci, although it should be as I specced the neck to be similar to the JP6! Sound quality is fantastic, with greater versatility than my JP7. Although for metal and hard rock the JP is still my instrument of choice. I guess I see the Suhr as more of a 'fusion' type guitar.

I think what most impresses me about Suhr, like EBMM, is the interaction of Suhr, and his employees, with his customers on his forum. Plus it's the fact that Suhr employs new technology in the build such as the Buzz Feiten system, Plek fret dressing, Stainless Steel frets etc.

[Suhr has just started building it's Pro series range which are standardised spec.. these are selling for £1200 in the UK yet are the same quality as Suhr's custom guitars. It's these guitars that compare more favourably with other companies as you are not paying for a custom spec build. Try em out!]

There's no doubt that Suhr's are truly wonderful instruments...

However, the amazing thing about MM's is that they offer a 'compensated' nut that doesn't need a different, or special, tuner system to do the very same thing that the Buzz Feiten system does...

I cannot tune my Tom Anderson without a special turner that works specifically with the BF system... which can really be a total pain in the U-know what sometimes..

When I discovered the compensated was standard on all new Balls... I have to admit that it blew me away to find this state of the art detail in such a reasonably priced (top-notch) guitar...

The Suhr I played the other nite did not have a buzz feiten nor did it have a compensted nut, the neck was cool but like I said the MM won with the neck shape and the bridge design as well as the unique headstock design with straight string pull, I felt the MM was a better value and my guitar sounded crisper through the same amp, its was a nice guitar but I didnt feel that I was missing something at all, love my silo!

Must be a trend

I was at the TMX show in Toronto today and also played a very nice Suhr guitar. It played well and handled nicely. It did not compare in sound or feel to the Silhouette special (quilt with maple fingerboard) that was in the Music Man booth however. For less than half the purchase price I get a guitar that plays better and has in my opinion greater versatility in tone. To that end, the guitar I played, that I am told is a unique anniversary model has already been allocated to my favorite dealer and I should be able to pick it up next weekend.

That makes the second Music Man into my collection that now numbers 48 guitars. I've never been so impressed with the value I get from Music Man. Now if I could just convince the powers that be to take the incredible all rosewood neck that is found on my Axis Super Sport and make it available on other bodies, there would be #3 with frightening ease.
