WOO, sweet AX!

I played it through my Mark V, (brought it back to guitar center to sound test as well as feel test) and compared it to a BFR they also had.

I like the larger frets, and I found that the neck seemed not as thin as the BFR. I liked the JPX with that little bit more of wood (i mean it might be the same, but just holding the neck at the nut, there seemed to be just the right amount of wood, where the BFR was thinner, or flatter feeling.

Now, my guess is this isnt a change for the JPX, as I've felt this on a std JP before as well. So is this something that occurs because the neck is hand sanded / finished... are they all a little different feeling?

Anyway the guitar sounded fantastic throught the amp, looked quite nice.

(saturday was actually a guitar store day, I must have played 15 different guitars at a few stores, trying to find the right neck)

The JPx is ahead for now... now if I can only get that in White sparkle!

Hey, u talkin to me? NY
I had played one on Friday. I think that you have an interesting point in reference to the neck. I thought that it was just me but after coming home and playing my '02 JP6, I realized that JPX's neck was very different feeling - wasn't as thin and wide. The large frets made a huge difference too (I'm not the biggest fan of large frets). It's almost like a different model all together - when comparing it to the standard JP6's and JP6 BFR's. I think for the people that liked but didn't love the wide thin necks of the JP6's and always wanted a JP6 would really love the JPX model. The paint color and finish in person is trully amazing:cool:!

I wondered this myself when my JPX arrived. The neck seemed to feel a bit smaller than the BFR. I think it only feels different because of the jumbo frets, though. They are *very* close. I think they are slightly different due to hand sanding and finishing.

The overall feel is changed a bit due to the more symmetric body on the JPX, and the tone is changed a bit due to the chambering, but it's still a JP. It still has the same feel and tone qualities...just slightly modified.

So you think yours is thinner than the BFR?
I felt it was larger.. guess we'll have to chalk that up to sanding.... i wonder if you can request more or less sanding.

and yeah the finish is quite nice in person.. they need to change the photos on the website, with some of the customer ones from here. I think it looks like flat plum at the MM site.. but fantastic on the user pics

Yes, mine feels thinner than the BFR.

Along the same lines, the necks on my Stealth JP7 and BFR JP7 feel a bit different as well. The Stealth feels ever so slightly thicker than the BFR.

We'll see in a few weeks how the JPX 7 compares to those ones.
