Hey guys i'm playing my JPX through a dsl50 and various pedals. The guitar feels great and sounds ok but it just doesn't really work with the Marshall (the axis sounds phenomenal with it). I usually boost the mids which sound great with most of my guitars for an 80s rock sound but the jpx just sounds muddy with the same settings. I'm not expecting to get Petrucci-like Mesa crunch and lead sounds but does anyone know some dsl settings to make this pair work better? I should mention that i'm looking for a heavy rock sound.
Thanks in advance,
Ben G

Can't get a great sound with a Marshall and a JPX???? Surely you jest. I've played my JP6 through a few different setups and I honestly could't get it to sound bad!!! REALLY. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. . . .
Although I will say this. . . . I chose the JP6 'standard' with the roasted neck over the JPX due to the standard sounding a bit crisper (with all settings being equal).

I know the muddy tone you're talking about. It took me a little while to dial in my tone with my 5150. I ended up hooking up my old sonic maximizer and that seemed to clean it up. I'm gonna try turning the bridge pickup around.....so the bar is near the bridge. That apparantly brightens up the tone a bit.

I find that ever amp does not match well with every guitar and vise versa. Tone and sound is discretionary to the user. Personally I do not like most Marshalls. They just do not get "thick" enough for me as a stand alone amp. The JCM900 I had for a while I used to put a Ibanez Tube Screamer DX in front of it to give it that extra punch so you might want to use a nice overdive to get that heavy rock tone. If I had to do it again I would pick the Fulltone Full Drive 2. Also as Defender said, try a BBE sonic maximizer. It works wonders with my Amps. The 382i Sonic Maximizer is probo all you would need.

You solved the problem - play your axis. :)
