People-

I recently registered and began blathering away on within this forum without the proper months spent listening (watching? skulking?) and perhaps without the proper etiquitte.

I was clued into my cluelessness when one of my three messages mysteriously disappeared. I get the message now!

Ok so I'm a surgical resident in Charlottesville, Virginia, played drums in a ska band in college, picked up guitar a few years back, have a little studio at my house, and tried out a MusicMan stingray at the local (2hours away) Sam Ash just for fun not knowing what it was all about-- and well it was love at first slap.

so now I have a nice natural finish MM SR4 that is supposedly in the mail to me from an ebay guy and I'm extremely psyched about it.

I look forward to hearing more.

Intersted in hearing comments and instructions as to how a new junior noobie loser member like me should proceed.

I think your posts (and a couple of mine) got deleted because bovinehost was updating it to a Sticky and didn't want a lot of wasted space.

Post at will - I many times will have some comment to make! I like to hear everyone's input.
Welcome!:)

carribean school, ha, I wish. We're about as land locked as you can get (University of Missouri Columbia). Not really known for anything other than primary care medicine, and being one of the first schools to introduce a PBL style of learning. That's one sweet bass. The one thing I regret about mine is that I got a rosewood board instead of a maple one like yours.

the les paul of basses

thanks for checking out the pic guys!

can I brag and say that I got it for 980 and it is basically new off of ebay?

very lucky. Again, its not in my hands yet so its still possible I've been had (should be here today or tomorrow).

I have not been so lucky trying to get an ampeg amp, however

I'm sorry about the rosewood fingerboard. Its still a sweet bass though!. I was lucky in that the one that I picked up to fool around with at the Sam Ash was maple, and I read up a little and learned the maple had a punchier attack.

I just totally fell for the looks and sound of the things. Then I saw some of the old school pre-ernie ball natural finishes and thought it was just so badass. I have a les paul standard and it reminds me alot of the tone- in a bassy way.

so I'm looking at getting one of those BA-112 ampeg amps-- a good thing? I want it loud enough so it is worth it-- but not so loud that my wife will divorce me.

and I'm glad there are guys out there like you cyberpunk to do the primary care thing. I worked in the VA ER here in virginia for the last two years moonlighting and it is a tough gig.

Pete:

Welcome once again. Sorry about deleting those posts but the assumpion was correct - I was just trying to keep that one thread clean. Glad to see you posted your photo again - I wasn't thinking about the photo when I cleaned up earlier, and I apologize.

I am not, as the crowd here knows, big on deleting stuff, so odds are that nothing else you post will ever disappear!

That's a great looking bass. I have one Stingray these days:

http://www.bovinehost.com/79ray/naturalray.html

I have a Stingray 5 coming this week that is the same color/wood/fingerboard combination, come to think of it.

Seem kind of familiar? Don't let the rosewood vs maple crowd sell you snake oil, by the way; rosewood boards can sound just as snappy and punchy as maple. Much depends on what you string it with and how you play, not to mention amp and cabs.

As far as that Ampeg goes, I haven't played one so can't give you a good check on it, but I do have an Ampeg B-50R I use as a practice amp and I have played a B-100R, and completely love both amps. Great old school tone and the B-100R has enough power to piss off the wife, if need be.

Again, welcome aboard!

Jack

sweet bass. 2 band vs. 3 band eq?

Jack-

thanks for the welcome message again. It is really fun to find some other people who share the same sickness that I do.

I can see you are a man after my own heart, as you've got pretty much the same bass that I have (rosewood fingerboard though) (again- coming in the mail I friggin hope!).

your bass is beautiful as well! Thanks for posting the pics

The black pickguard on the natural finish is just so awesome and simple looking.

I noticed you have the original 2 band EQ vs I think mine has the 3EQ.

Do you prefer the 2 band over teh 3 band?

Sympathy for the Devil

Mobay 45-

I'm glad you got the reference. To answer your question, I will take a stab at a guess at your name:

Lawrence?

Ok, only if I want to get my ass kicked right?

I'm looking forward to that black p/g.

Rod Trussbroken-- thank you for the welcome. The Ernie Ball Resort is just the extra distraction I need, since I do not have enough in my life.

If any of you are in the area of Charlottesville, Virgina I will be happy to fix any hernias, take out any gallbladders or appendices free of charge.

Sincerely, Bernard Edwards

Disquieter-

I hope it was the free surgery people would take me up on and not the asskickiing.

The free surgery comes with the caveat that I am a resident, and thus I really don't know what I am doing.

But I'll try real hard, and in surgery, its the thought that counts... right?
